Ammo for my Pardini Empty Ammo for my Pardini

Post by hbeiro 2/17/2017, 6:24 am

Can some one help me match the ammo to the gun?  My Pardini SP is two months old with about 1200 rounds down range.  I shot 812/900-10X about two weeks ago with Aguilla pistol match but the cases are sticking to the bolt and will not extract.  Rate: 2 or 3 per hundred.  On slow fire its recoverable ... rapid or timed ... I cannot recover.  I read in another thread about cold wax ... that's a thought.  I'm thinking ... better ammo?

Assuming you have cleaned the gun, I'd say try different ammo -- not necessarily "better".  There are at least 5 Pardini SP pistols used in our indoor league and we all use different ammo.  I use Eley Club for matches but my friends newer Pardini doesn't love it.  I use CCI SV for practice when I can get it.  I see Lapua, SK and Norma being used by others.

If you haven't cleaned the gun, look at the bolt face.  You need to remove the gummy black gunk.  It's a precision instrument and should be kept reasonably clean.  As a precision instrument, cleaning should be done with a gentle hand.  I use Hoppe's Elite spray, nylon bristle brushes and persistence.

I have the same problem in my Benelli  but only in cold weather with ammo ranging from the top self stuff to lesser brands.  Living in New England we can hang meat out doors eight months out of the year so shooting in 20 degree and colder temps is kind of the norm Very Happy

My old Ruger III worked with any ammo so I’m assuming it’s the tighter chambers of a real match barrel as much or more than the ammo causing me problems.  I should try some biathlon ammo and see if I still have problems; but I’d have more luck sprouting wings than finding that around these parts I’m afraid.

If you can buy ammo online, check out:

http://ammoseek.com/ammo/22lr?ikw=biathlon

https://www.wikiarms.com/search?q=biathlon&caliber=1

But, at 18 to 50 cents per round, I'd be afraid to try it.  I mean, what if the gun loved it?  Yikes.

I cannot mail order ammo into MA.  I know what you mean it would be just my luck that the gun would shoot that well.

Yes cleaned the bolt face with tooth brush and Rem oil, but you make a good point.  There may be a thin film of wax that the Hoppes Elite might remove.  Worth a try.

Although KY allows ammo shipments, I agree with NOT trying Biathalon ammo.  If she liked it, I'd have to feed her.

Well, has anyone tried any rifle match?  I found some Aguilla Rifle Match and CI competition?  That's what I'll be feeding this week.

I do listen.  My father-in-law usta say; "You spend $25,000 on a car but put cheap gas in it".

I guess I'll go see what Cabella's has on the shelf.

I run Aguila Pistol Match and Rifle Match, I haven't noticed any difference. My SP likes them both. I put a drop of oil on the top round in each magazine and let it spread while we score and repair targets. Keeps everything running smooth.

"Sticking to the bolt"  Not too sure what that would mean exactly.  Sort of sounds like the recoil is not pushing the bolt back far enough to kick the case off the face. I think I would pay attention to what MV is advertised with the stuff that does not work and try some that is about 50 to 100fps faster.  I have an IZH35M Russian gun that runs anything, but did have a TTolympia which was a Chinese knockoff of a Walther that had your problem.  Only way I could get it to shoot standard velocity ammo was to change the recoil spring.  Larry

All Aguilla I have ever used sucked in the cold! I use cci sv in my Pardini with 100% success thus far shooting down into the 40's. You might use a thinner lubricant in the winter to let bolt function easier.

Pocket hand warmers..simply carry your loaded mags down range when you score to keep them warm.

Try the Norma Tac. Cabelas should have it. Keep your ammo and mags in your pocket. And clean the bolt face with a good grease cutting solvent. I like kroil for grease and wax removal. Also make sure that you brush your chamber and that your ammo freely drops in and out of it.

The Aguila pistol match you are using is rated at a MV of 925fps.  Out of your little short barrel it is likely not even making  an ISSF legal velocity.  Since your gun is probably designed to be ISSF legal I would doubt it will like that low energy ammo you are trying to make it swallow.  If you want to keep running the Aguila I would try the 40gr subsonic, that is rated at 1025fps and is the practice ammo I use in my IZH.  Same price as the pistol match in most places.  Larry

Pistol.match works fine in my Benelli and Pardini. But both were well used when I got them. My bet is that your p err inlet is st least partially the temps.

Not all "pistol match" is even close to each other in velocity, SK Pistol match is 1031fps while the Aguila is 925, I think you are just not getting enough energy into the bolt to eject the empty properly.  You are probably close, but from time to time you get a round that is a little light and that causes the problem.  The SK also uses a much thinner type of lube, almost like an oil while the Aguila is a wax.  Good luck, tell us what makes your gun run right.  Larry

I shoot the Aguila Pistol Match in both a pardoning and a benelli. It was the the most accurate I found for slowfire in the Bennelli. I have had no problems using it when the chambers were clean and I kept the ammo warm. I did have a problem when I was shooting outdoors in the high 20's.and the ammo was cold.

From Aguila's webpage. The Pistol match was designed for international competition. I think that the velocity is measured from a pistol length barrel.

"ENGINEERED AND TESTED TO OLYMPIC STANDARDS.
Using Aguila Prime technology, our premium pistol match rounds are manufactured to Olympic shooting standards. The end result: optimal reliability, accuracy, and performance shot after shot. Designed for use in 4.75″ length barrels."

Point is that he is running about the lowest energy and lowest quality ammo you can find in a very fine piece of hardware.  As I recall the ejector is built into the magazine lip so if the bolt is not being driven all the way back every time the case will never contact the ejector and will appear to be stuck on the bolt face.  It may even keep the next round from feeding and the empty case may be re-chambered as the bolt goes forward.  Larry

I shoot the Aguila in the Pardini, it works with the exceptions noted previously, and it is designed for 4.75 inch barrels. But Norma works better in my Pardini.  I shoot the Aguila in the Benelli and generally Norma in the Pardini.

But as an aside, how much SK Pistol Match did you see at the Olympics this last time? Or for that matter Eley Target or Norma or CCI?

Ammo for my Pardini Empty Re: Ammo for my Pardini

Post by fc60 2/21/2017, 7:25 pm

Greetings,

I was gifted a box of Aguila Pistol Match.

I tested it at 50 yards in a Pardini SP barrel mounted in a mechanical fixture.

The ammo I received shot X-ring.

I also tested CCI SV and TENEX. They also shot X-ring.

Yes, the TENEX shot a smaller X-ring group.

The lesser cost ammo will get most of us into the High Master class with a bit of practice.

Cheers,

Dave
