revolver question. Empty revolver question.

I would like to add a S&W model 14 or a K-38 to my box O range toy's...and it would mainly be just a toy for 25yd slow fire ...I know that accuracy has some to do with the load and bullet used but what would be a realistic group size for such a gun...? Reason I ask is if I do find one I would like to know what to expect and be able to Jugde weither it will need work or not...I have some revolver experince but never for strictly Bullseye style shooting.....I'm not in a rush to get one but the wheels are starting to turn...Ive aslo thought about a 6'' GP-100 but I have my concerns it wont be as accurate being its chamber for .357 but its a option if anyone has shot one with .38's and found it to be a workable target piece and would fit my stated needs.....

well, i can't shoot it that well, but my grandfather made master shooting his SAO k-38 (14-2). i've never shot it from a ransom, but i know that the few bullseye shooters from arkansas still recognize his gun when my dad and i take it out shooting. sorry, i know that's not really hard evidence.

Best my model 14 did from the Ransom was about 2" at 50 yds with factory HBWC. My best NMC with it was 281.

My 14-4 shoots just under 3" at 50 yds. with 158 SWC's. I hear the older guns shoot better and are easier to get a great DA pull.

Ya thats the plan to find a older one....My neighbor is a menber of Ohio Gun Collectors ...So He said whenever I was ready he would take me to that show....and I'd be able to find a older model that has very few rds thru it...Unfortunately they are priced alittle higher than normal but they are qualiy pieces...Another bad point is my fall time frame wont work as that show is spring time I believe...But I aint in no big hurry ....But your right about the triggers...I have a model 65 3'' heavy barrel in .357 ...the trigger is about the best Ive every felt on a revolver.

K-38's are great for centerfire matches and a must for Distinguished Revolver. I shot a borrowed one in a DR match that I had not planned to enter. It shot so well that I went out and purchased a used one the next week. Without any modifications, except a very through cleaning, it is the best shooting revolver in my safe. Seems to do best with 158 gr LSWC and either Bullseye or N320 powders.

Is there much difference between the model 14 and 15's? Local shop had a really nice 15 recently, almost no turn line and original box but only 4" barrel, I prefer the longer sight radius and I believe the 14 came with 6" and 8 3/8" barrels while the 15's have shorter barrels. IIRC.

the main difference is the barrel length and the front sight. the 15s have the ramp sights as standard and the shorter barrel so they could be drawn from a holster more easily, hence the designation "combat masterpiece." the 14s have the longer barrels (6" and 8 3/8" as tallen said) and the more traditional shaped patridge sight and were referred to as the "target masterpiece."
