Brass Shield or Mesh Screen Empty Brass Shield or Mesh Screen

Post by Tim:H11 5/21/2017, 9:30 pm

I have regionals coming up this weekend. I don't own and I have never used a brass shield or piece of mesh before. How big do I need to make it. I'm thinking it might be handy to have.

Big enough to fit in the back of your bullseye box behind the drawers works.

Be aware that the mesh has to be fairly open, 1/4 inch opening or something like that or it is a wind break and that is not allowed. Regular door/window screen is not allowed.

The rule book states the minimum scale (?) (size? I don't know the word I'm looking for here. "Gauge"?). I think it is 1/4". For overall dimensions, about the size of your closed gunbox. I staple mine to the outside.

One of the "must-have" pieces of bullseye equipment, IMO. Check out the rule book and make yourself one.

Or go full Zen and make yourself one...with everything.

Checking the latest rule book 3.9.1 states screen must be "Hardware Cloth" (screen) with wire not larger than 1/16" and not closer than 1/4". Solid can not be used. I know at one time a size was listed but none were there now.

The screen mesh size rule is to not obstruct the view of the range safety crew.

Overall size is not specified but should not interfere with the range safety crew or other competitors.

Saw one years ago that was referred to as The screen door.

Old hands have scars that testify to their commitment to safety and score.

Thanks guys! A trip to the hardware store I shall take. Aside from the rules on wire gauge, and size of the openings, I assume it's okay to tape off the rough edges after being trimmed to size? Just so it doesn't snag or tear something up.

If you go to the HVAC section of your mega store you should find a cheap duct panel break (forming tool) that would allow you to fold the edges over,  Gives a clean strong edge that won't deteriorate with age and weather...unlike the shooter.
