Hammerli 1911 adapters Empty Hammerli 1911 adapters

Post by tceva Fri Aug 31, 2018 5:27 am

I have this love hate relationship with my conversion.  Every once in a while it will go through a spell of sending one errant shot.
Most of the time it is the loose nut, But even when shots are on call, It will send one.  That's when I resort back to my Hammerli.
Does anyone have experience with the grip conversions that CMM makes for a Hammerli?  Do they really feel like a 1911?  I use real thin slabs on my wad gun,
and would like to simulate the same volume.
Thanks in advance

Alex,

I do have the CMM 1911 frame adapter on my 208s.  Specifically, CMM's arched adapter.  My problem is the opposite of yours.  Off the shelf (single stack) 1911s feel too thin in my hands.  So I also have CMM's .063" 1911 stock spacer on top of the adapter (he had to slightly modify his spacer for the adapter) and on top of the spacer is Herrett D45 stocks, which are the thickest slaps I can find.

I would give you thickness measurements but my 208s is out for repair/refurbish.  But if you email CMM, I am sure they will tell you how thick and deep their adapter is.

For me, it did give my 208s a 1911 feel with the only exception being the arch on the adapter is not the same angle as the arched mainspring housing on my 1911.  But it is not that different that it bothers me.  My adapter came with grip tape for the front strap and I added grip tape to the back strap as the front and back of the adapter are not stippled.  But I found the grip tape works just fine since it is a .22.

I found that the CMM frame adapter fit perfectly on my 208s.  After installing the adapter, make sure all your mags insert and remove the same as before.  I found that if I tighten the bottom screw on the adapter too much, it binds the mag release leaf spring, making it difficult to remove the mag.

I like the CMM conversion grip.  I like shooting my Nelson conversion.  I have an LP50 with a 1911 grip.  I like my .45 1911.  I have just let go of the idea that they are somehow substitutes for each other.

I don’t even treat my .45 1911’s as if they are all the same.  Two women may be similar as well, but I know the difference between my wife and my girlfriend!  Very Happy

I just wanted to get that out of the way, because in the end my opinion is that the CMM grip will give you the finest Hammerli .22 with a 1911 grip you may ever own.

Is it gonna fix that errant shot issue you are having?  If it is mechanical issue with the gun, yes, switching guns will help.

Is it something about the trigger causing it? The Hammerli can help with that.

Is the issue between the ears?  Well, that never stopped anyone from trying to fix it with money.  Wink

Will, Thomas,
Thank you.  Hard to get a handle on operator error.  That's a given.  I love my Hammeli's.
Finest 22 made in my opinion.  I am using a Rink grip on my match pistol.  It is considerable different than slabs.  Just wanted to try something different.
Best,
Alex

I have the CMM on my trailside and love them
Lots of options to thicken the grips if you like.

I just bought a 208s with the CMM conversion and Sharkskin grips and I really like how it feels.  It feels very close to my other 1911's and I agree they are all slightly different.

Dave,
Love those sharkskins.  Did you have the option to buy them without the Harrets?

I got it all with the 208s when I bought it, so I don't know if you can get it without the slabs, I'd certainly ask CMM.

This topic came with prefect timing.  I have the CMM adapters.  I like them a lot.  But I have been thinking of switching to Rinks.  I only shoot 22.  If you guys only shot 22's would you use CMM adapters or would you use anatomical grips?  Why?

I am sure the true answer is personal preference.  But ever since I got my 1911 grip to the front-back width (arched mainspring housing) and side-to-side thickness (CMM spacers under Herrett D45 slaps) that I like, I find that I get a firmer grip on my 1911 style guns than I do on my Pardini.  However, to this day, my personal best .22 score in a 2700 match was shot with my Pardini (877).

This is tough to give advice on.  On my Pardini I bought 1911 grips for it (https://www.precisiontargetpistolgrips.com/) and Dick Horton ortho grips.  So far I have shot my highest score with the 1911 grips.  BUT I hadn't given my Dick Horton grips an honest try because I hadn't done the final adjustments they needed.  Now that I have made the subtle mods they needed I truly believe I will shoot a higher score soon.  Hey it took me 2 months to get my Air Pistol grips right.  Time will tell.

I bought the Hammerli because it came with the CMM 1911 grips.  So I have no intention of trying the ortho grips that came with it.

i wouldn't use anatomical grips unless it was 22 only and Cesar Morini himself fit them to me.
