Due to popular demand, Clark Custom will be producing new barrels for the S&W 52.

S&W 52 Match Grade, Oversized Gunsmith fit, SS, 1 in 10 twist, 6 groove barrel.
Price  $ 259.95 + shipping

Finally, something better than the factory 1:18.75 twist.

They expect to begin production in the next 3-4 weeks.  Drop an email to Renee and get on the waiting list.

Thanks for the info.  I received my match grade ammo to test my gun with today.  It hasn't been shooting as tight of groups off a good rest as I think it should.  This will tell me if it is the gun or it just doesn't like my reloads.  Next step will be a new barrel bushing if I can find one and then the barrel.  I like shooting this gun so if I have to send it off and have Clark Customs take care of it I will.  Don

Just talked to Paul at Clark and they are getting some prototypes made and hope to start production soon. He also said they may look into making new barrel bushings.  The new barrels are being machined for the S&W bushing so an existing bushing should work unless it is worn past where it can be tightened.

Greetings,

Replacement Barrel Bushings from S&W were machined undersize. You had to hone/lap the ID to fit the barrel.

Cheers,

Dave

Dave I had to do that with the NM bushing I put in my Gold Cup.  Both the inside and the out side.  Really turned out well and really reduced the LL RR groups.  Bushings are not expensive so I figured after reading up and watching videos I would try it.  I was not aware the S&W still had 52-2 bushings I need to give them a call.  Don

So who still works on 52's? I'd for sure replace the barrel on mine.

Living in the real world that I am forced to live in I know a new barrel will not get me any more points. The old barrel will and has cleaned targets at the short line. The rounds hit on call on the longline. They may be a little canted but still on call. When I feel the pistol is holding me back I might think about a new barrel. I just don't imagine that ever happening. Just my opinion YMMV

Mine definitely doesn't group well at 50 yards. Factory ammo. From my pistol 50 ft indoors to 50 yrds outdoors is about a 10 point difference.

The 52 is not at all forgiving at 50 yd.  If I call a right 8, it ends up being in the 5 ring or a miss.  Your follow through must be a lot better than mine.  I don't know if a faster twist is the answer, but it sure can't hurt anything to try one.

Greetings,

S&W no longer have any Model 52, 52-1, nor 52-2 parts.

Bushings occasionally show up on eBay,

Ask the seller what the inside diameter is before bidding.

I plan to make some just as soon as I am caught up making stuff for other shooters.

Cheers,

Dave

I learned to shoot with a 52 a million yrs ago but I suspect my BMI is what works for me today. "Big John" Kailer used to call that little extra weight slow fire muscle. It also helps if you can trust the barrel you have. When I switched to the Holosun I sand bagged it to see how it shot at 25yds. I only fired one magazine and called it good enough.

Mine throws fliers, 1 or two every group at 20yds.  That is with a good rest.  If I was to not count the fliers like some gun magazine writers do then my group would be as tight as Len's group.  I will know when I shoot these Remington Match bullets when I get a chance.  If any gun will hold the 10 ring that is good enough for me off a rest but one or two fliers in to the 9 need to be looked at.  Don

Admittedly this was a long time ago, but I shot this at a local match with my S&W Model 52-1 with iron sights. A 200-13X. I'd say this gun and ammo will still shoot! That being said, as I said before, if one's goal is to climb the ladder to master and high master, stick with the 1911. If you shoot for pure enjoyment and like shooting the Model 52, go for it!
