S&W N frame 38 Special

Didn't know at first exactly what it was, but I bought it anyway.

Apparently I have an excellent 38/44 Outdoorsman Model of 1950 pre model 23.  6.5" barrel

The recoil plate is real nice.  Screw slots sound.  Not much use showing. 
I.m guessing the  S131xxx serial put it about 1956.
It's about a year newer than the 1955 Model over there >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Exceptional!  Does the extra weight help with DA?

Mine has outshot every K38 I've ever picked up . Like shooting a capgun with std 38 loads . If you want hotter ala Keith loads it'll go there too . Lyman 358429 with 2400 , H4227 , SR-4756 , 800X , N-350 or 110 will launch between 1100 to 1300fps with outstanding accuracy from mine . They're great guns enjoy .

Don't know.  Just got it.  Paid dearly at Cabelas. 
But I am going to thin the too large herd elsewhere and probably lose my shirt more than once. 

Really though I'm a SA type.  It's got the medium wide hammer and the narrow serrated trigger. 
I might want to put in a tgt hammer and 312 smoothe trigger.  I think I have them.

That looks really great!  Looks like new!

I wouldn't hesitate to shoot it for DR.  Elmer Keith had a blast using loads so hot in that round that they rivaled .357 mag and had more chamber pressure then modern .44 mag loads. Consider it the very first 38 Special+p revolver. I am jealous. There were not very many of them made.

They are nice pistols. They are not as smooth and light in double action as a M14 because of the larger cylinders, but they are still nice.

Do you mind if I ask how much you paid?

Mine is shown on the bottom in the photo below/ The top is one of the later M25, "reproductions" of a Model of 1955, The middle is a Hand eject in .44 Special, pre-M24 (with an extra cylinder in .44 Russian), and the bottom is the .38/44. The photos do not do the pistols justice.
