Revolver question Empty Revolver question

Post by Magload 6/5/2017, 12:57 pm

The 25-2 I just purchased receptively the cylinder is very hard to open.  It closes and locks very easy. I am use to my GP100 just push the button forward and I can just swing the cylinder out.  Am I doing something wrong with this S&W?  I can't see there is a adjustment and the users manual just says to push the button forward.  I thing this gun has had very little use so is it possible it is just tight and will loosen up with use.

Next question is the users manual says nothing about moon clips just says drop 45 ACP into cylinders.  Did they just forget to mention moon clips?

The last question.  How do I mount a optic on this gun i am terrible with iron sights.  Maybe it just doesn't like my 3.8gr of be behind a Zero 185gr SWCHP or the seating is wrong.  I suspect it is me and the fix is a optic.  I will bench rest it tomorrow and see.   Don

The 25-2 cylinder is chambered for .45 ACP cartridge. You can drop them in and fire them, but, you can't eject them. You must tap each out with a dowel. Clips allow cases to be ejected. Or, use .45 autorim brass.

Thanks James that makes using moon clips the way to go and also explains what this aluminium rod that came with the gun is for.  Looked like a squid rod to me.  Don

I picked up my M-14 for a song because the cylinder would not open without some persuasion.  The gun shop was not familiar at all with revolvers and thought the frame was bent.  The ejection/cylinder rod had backed out a tad was the problem.  You may have the same problem.

Thanks Jon I will look at that.  I was thinking that a build up under the star might be the problem but I cleaned it good.  Don

That was my first thought, too. Sometimes I use blue Loctite to keep them in place. You hear a lot of bunk in gun shops, and many of the folks there have no knowledge at all about revolvers. I was in my local one today. It is very entertaining to hear the bull that is handed out to uninformed customers.

Jon and Mike thank you both that was exactly what the problem is.  Even a old dog can learn new tricks I guess.  Now I have two of the 3 questions answered this forum is awesome.  Don

ANOTHER CAUSE IS YOKE FACE WEAR. AS THE CYLINDER SPINS ON THE YOKE, THE FACE OF THE YOKE WEARS ALLOWING THE CYLINDER TO MOVE FORWARD. THIS INCREASES THE CONTACT ON THE LOCKING PIN. THE CYLINDER MAY NEED TO BE SET BACK. JP

I have that 3rd answer too.  Shoot me a PM with your address and I’ll send you the B-Square mount that came on my 14.  I shoot irons only so I removed it and replaced the rear sight assembly back to factory specs.  It’s yours just let me know where to ship it.
