Who uses tripp research mags and how does their quality compare to Wilson/baer/mccormick mags? Which tripp mag are you using? 7, 8 or 10 round? And modifications that should be made?

Or should I purchase their upgrade kits for my current mags and call it good?

Based on a recommendation from Dave (droning), I worked with Aaron at Tripp Research to get the mix of springs, bases etc the way I (and my pistol) liked them.   He was super good to work with.   I like the 4 matching magazines he built me, but have not benched them.  I also have one Chip McCormick Shooting Star that seems to run very well.

My own personal experience has been that before experimenting with lots of different types of magazines, make sure your extractor and firing pin stop have been seen by a gunsmith.

I find it useful to ask questions, when thinking about something like this.  What problems, if any, are you having with your pistol(s) and current make/model of magazine(s)?  In your use of the pistol, do you really need 8 rounds in a flush fit magazine?  How high (or low) performance is your ammunition?  What is your tolerance for failure?

I rarely load more than 5 (Bullseye) or 6 (PPC) rounds in a 1911 magazine, so 7-shot is fine, and you'll put less demands on a mag with 7.  I have only two 1911 pistols, a Colt that gave me trouble with last round feeding prior to wad gun conversion, and a Springfield RO that has given me no trouble.  Regarding the Colt, it benefitted from a magazine follower with a bump on its top surface, and the Tripp Cobra Mags I have, have bumps.  The now-discontinued Wilson 608 magazines also have bumps, and are cheaper, and work as well.
