Ok. This will be my last this vs that post.

For all the folks in the know....which do you like better for bullseye comp?

Which is more accurate? Which is less problematic?

Does the 41 need to be sleeved to be accurate?

Magazine lips on the HS need to be tweeked all the time?

Lemme know what u guys think....

This is your dream pistol. Round count zero. Has box. Has everything (except 2nd mag?). A series and the perfect barrel length. IMO. They do not need to be sleeved to be accurate.

Cool That is my dream pistol.

It would need to be drilled and tapped for a red dot?

I think his price is a bit high also. 1750 American is alotta wood for that unit.

I owned a couple of pre-Houston Hi-Standards; one a Victor. They were just ok in the accuracy department. The magazines can be a problem. Both of my HS were subject to a malfunction (alibi) every hundred rounds or so. There aren't many pistolsmiths who are competent working on them these days. In this day and age, if I were to make the choice, I'd choose the S&W model 41. The magazines are relatively trouble free, readily available and not expensive. There are good pistolsmiths who can work on them. Buddy Chapman of Lone Oak, TX used to cut down the 7" barrels to 6". Having grooves added or drilled and tapped for a scope mount make this a good option for shooting with optics. The accuracy is hit and miss. If it were me, I'd buy a reasonably priced used one (less than a grand), with a 7" barrel, send it to Alex Hamilton to have the barrel cut to 6", drill and tap for a scope mount or put scope ring grooves (whatever he recommends), have the barrel re-lined, do a trigger job and reliability job. If he can do a machine rest test, it would be worth it to me.

I have a M41 from the mid 80's that I bought used 2 years ago. It's never had an alibi. HOWEVER I was going nuts with first shot flyers. Turns out it was the barrel which was otherwise very accurate. I have never had a first shot flyer with the 7" barrel I bought for it or the excellent Clark barrel that I recently got.
I also have a Hamden era M107 that has an amazing trigger. Unfortunately I have ONE magazine that I can trust only 99%. I hope to one day have time to figure it out. I stick with the 41 because it just runs.

Both may have problems or not.   High Standard and M41's seem outdated in today world.

2016  For rimfire, Hemphill used a Feinwerkbau AW93 paired with an Aimpoint Micro H1. Prior to this year, he used a Hammerli, but now that is his backup gun.

Since nothing much has changed in the bullseye pistol game, except the name, and the fact that these pistols were pretty much designed to compete in bullseye pistol competitions, I'd say that they still are valid for their intended purpose. That being said, I moved on to the Hammerli 208s and now a Marvel conversion. Didn't Zurek use a .22 conversion?

At this point, I would be afraid to shoot my HSs in competition, still get occasional FTFs.  I have started loading only 5 rounds at a time, seems much better, time will tell.  i don't remember ever getting FTFs with either of my 41s.  I haven't bench rested any of them for accuracy comparisons, although they all will shoot better than i can hold.

It might be the firing pin. They can be stretched or if that doesn't work, you may need a new one. We only load 5 rounds at a time for bullseye pistol matches.
