The NRA Gallery Match

Here is information about the NRA Gallery Course I have been looking for. Due to my disability, I need to shoot indoors where a pulley system brings the target in and sends it out.

Some information is dated...

The first section is from the NRA rule book.
The second section is about a postal match some years ago. I would be interested in a postal match as well.
The third section is the Sequence of Commands for the NRA Gallery Course.

NRA "Gallery" postal match course in .22 and/or .45.
03-12-2007, 08:12 PM
http://www.northeastshooters.com/vbulletin/threads/17566-NRA-quot-Gallery-quot-course-in-22-and-or-45

The last try at a postal match got too complicated and so never happened... I'm going to keep this one simple:

This shoot will run from April to September (6 months), one set of targets each month.

NRA "Gallery" course in .22 and/or .45.

Target #1: NRA 50ft Slow Fire (B-2)
Slow fire is 10 rounds fired in 10 minutes. (EDIT: use two targets for .45, 5 shots each so that the individual shots can be scored properly.)

Target #2: NRA 50ft Timed and Rapid Fire (B-3)
Timed fire is 10 rounds fired in two 5-shot strings -- 20 seconds each string.

Target #3: NRA 50ft Timed and Rapid Fire (B-3)
Rapid fire is 10 rounds fired in two 5-shot strings -- 10 seconds each string.

Rules:
You can shoot either or both .22 and .45acp.
Please note if you are using iron or optical (red dot) sights.
You supply the targets. (see above links for reference. Any brand, as long as they are the correct format.)

Targets may be found at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NBAXJDM/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I8BMVMCGBT8ZW&colid=39LU4F8G3ARUH

Scoring: NRA Rules Apply
Targets must be:
If shooting by yourself, mail targets to me to be received by the last day of the month. Please mark Timed or Rapid Fire on the appropriate target. Or:
If shot with another paid NES member, the other member should score and PM to me the results. Please report each target's score separately (don't forget the X's and who's scores you are reporting).
Eligibility: You must be a paid NES member to play this time. For info see here.
Winner at the end of the year to be determined by best average score (but you have to shoot 4 sets minimum in that caliber to win).

When shooting a postal match:
Practice as much as you'd like
Decide to shoot the match (I don't recommend shooting it after a long practice session).
Shoot the WHOLE MATCH (all 3 targets) in one session in succession.
Once you've shot the match, that's it. You can't go back and reshoot because you flinched on the third shot in slow fire, or whatever. The idea is to try to simulate some match pressure. Honesty is required here.

First targets are due BEFORE May 1.

Let us know if you are in by choosing the from the poll above (you can multi select).

Good Luck!!

27.     Check all guns on the line.  After the last rapid fire string, competitors may box their guns and remove them from the line.  When the line is clear, call for target changers.  The target changers will reset the range for the next relay by hanging slow fire targets and this cycle will repeat until the match concludes.  For additional information concerning the proper commands, refer to the official NRA Pistol Rule Book, section 10.

Any refire target shall be marked with the number of shots which should appear on the target.  For example, if an alibi was called with 3 shots fired, there should be 13 shots on the target.  Be sure to tell the target changers which targets are refire targets and also that they have a marker or pencil to mark the target.

The NRA Gallery Match Empty Re: The NRA Gallery Match

Post by CR10X Fri Aug 18, 2017 12:51 pm

I don't understand the obsession with the NRA Gallery Match.  Any matches using the correct targets for the distances available can be shot, indoors or outdoors, with any type of movable or static target holders for matches (Registered Matches need turning targets), with appropriate timing.  Rule 4 describes the targets, Rule 7 describes the standard matches and allows for other course of fire if posted in the program. See rule 19.4 for matches that are to be used for classification.

Basically it sounds like your just looking for indoor matches with movable target system to retrieve targets to the line.  As long as they have the correct targets for the distances and use the correct times, you're in business.   Just to be clear, it does not have to be the "Gallery Match".
At our outdoor matches, if there is a problem with shooters getting to the line, the other competitors and match official will take care of scoring and repairing.  Don't worry too much about having to find this one type of match.

Hope this helps.

PS, there are several recommended commands that are not included above, such as "The range is clear.  You may handle your guns."

The complete commands for clearing the line should be:

“CEASE FIRING - ARE THERE ANY REFIRES?

UNLOAD - CYLINDERS OPEN - MAGAZINES OUT - SLIDES BACK - EMPTY CHAMBER INDICATORS IN PLACE - GUNS ON THE TABLE.”

“IS THE LINE SAFE ON THE RIGHT? IS THE LINE SAFE ON THE LEFT?”

“THE LINE IS SAFE, GO FORWARD, SCORE TARGETS AND PASTE” (or “CHANGE”).

Due to my disability, I need to shoot indoors where a pulley system brings the target in and sends it out. I use a walker, and I am on oxygen 24/7. Plus, the heat and humidity here in Florida create a barrier for me. I asked the range master at the outdoor range which hosts Precision Pistol competitions, and he said that he would be concerned with my navigating to and from the targets on the rough terrain so many times throughout a match.

Please read the entire reply. It does not have to be a gallery match to be shot indoors or at reduced distacces. You might shortchange your opportunities just looking for NRA Gallery. Other matches would probably help you with scoring, like I said. I know several that do.

I greatly prefer a 900 indoors to a double NMC or a single NMC (which is basically what is being called a Gallery match).

I understand the heat and humidity can create a barrier.  However, I find it incredulous that the range master / match director would not get a volunteer for your down range duties.  I'm sure the Director of Competitions at NRA can help remind these folks that disabled shooters must be accommodated.
