I see that both Champion's Choice and Earl's Walther offer these... the price is similar ($75 to $85, gulp!) but the pictures available lead me to believe that these are two different items. (the pictures aren't exactly hi-res or show much detail)

I have run a full search for anything Walther GSP related on these pages and I enjoyed all that I read but I couldn't find much about a brass catcher for this pistol.

I'm not a Bullseye competitor and I marvel at the shooting skills that you guys have, but this pistol definitely makes me feel better about what I can do with a handgun. The forward magazine/chamber setup means that a hand-mounted brass catcher (not ideal anyway) simply won't catch even one piece.

So it'll be a "buy once/cry once" but which of the two catchers is the better mousetrap?

I bought two from Earl's, a hard plastic one that attaches via a new magazine base and I believe is made by Walther.  There is also one that has a fabric velcro strap and a metal locater plate which I believe is aftermarket.

I have not used them that much, but they both work.  My .32 upper came to me with a neglected finish, so I am not worried if the aftermarket metal plate marks the slide.

Send me a PM with your eMail or cell phone number and I will send you pictures.

Greetings,

My wife and I both use the hard plastic catches that mount on to the magazine.

We would be lost without them.

Every once and a while, one will bounce out of the catcher; but, is easily found.

Should you buy one, smear some light grease on the dovetail to make it easier to assemble.

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks guys... I suppose I am still a bit confused. The catcher mounts to the magazine -- such that I cannot fire a magazine of five shots, change mags and continue shooting? I'd need to remove the catcher after five shots and then mount it to my other loaded magazine?

That doesn't sound like a good design, I hope I'm just confused.

The plastic catcher requires a new, different magazine bottom.  There is a dovetail arrangement that holds the magazine bottom and the catcher together.  If you have two of the bottoms, install them on two magazine bottoms.  Load both magazines.  Install the catcher on the first magazine and after the first string of 5 you would pull the catcher off the first magazine bottom and slide it on the second.

The dovetail is rather tight.  I will try the grease on the dovetail that was mentioned above, the next time I shoot mine.

Okay, that is a very clear explanation, thank you! And it makes it sound like a poor design and one I will NOT like.

Frustrated!

I have the cloth type on my GSP, it has worked well, caught 1,000s of rounds. It attaches to the barrel with Velcro. I empty it usually after 10 rounds. I got it from Earl's.
