Lee Pro 1000?

I was given a Pro 1000 and have a few thousand .45 acp rounds through it, and have managed some accuracy, but haven't pushed it much yet, I mostly shoot action pistol 3x a month plus practice and therefore use quite a bit of ammo. Does anyone have input on this press's capabilities as far as accuracy and consistency?

I load on one ....I can get ammo that from my gun will shoot 1'' or less @ 25yds ....Keep that press clean and go slow when the primer is being dropped and you should nt have any trouble...I can load the same loading on my turret press and I can see no difference ...there are better presses out there but the Lee is a good value for the $ yes it could be more refined ..I dont know your set up but if you use the 3 hole press dont use the bullet seating die to crimp with ...If you are get a single stage press and get a good taper crimp die and you should see some increae in accuracy....I did and better feeding as well.

I converted my Pro 1000 into a 3 station press. Station one - powder drop, station two - seat depth, station three - Lee Factory Crimp die.

I size and de-prime after tumbling and prime by hand. I am producing some very consistent ammo!

Well, I now have 2 of these presses...both free, so the price is right. I'm very glad to know they can produce accuracy, thank you for your input, Paper Puncher.

Joe, may I ask why you prime by hand?

I've read of people having trouble with primer feed, and adding cell phone vibrators and such to get them to feed. I simply bent the pin that is pressed into the primer feeder and bumps up and down the back of the post with the grooves in it to shake a bit harder. My press is so old, the post and grooves were also worn, so I loosened and rotated the post so the pin would have fresh grooves to jiggle the feeder.

I had no trouble with the primers feeding down the trough, my primary issue was primers flipping sideway and upside worn at the seating station. I was destroying 10-15 primers out of every 100 or so. I am very surprised that I never set one off.

My current process is working well, I can prime by hand sitting in the living room with my wife and dogs watching TV and loading is very fast when you do not have to monitor a primer tray. I get home from a day at the range toss the brass in the tumbler, next night size and re-prime. All my brass is either sized and primed or loaded ready to go.

This works for me YMMV
