General Maintenance

I have searched around alot, unfortunately I have not been able to find any type of concensus. How often do you all perform regular maintenance on your 1911? If you can think of any other regular maintenance items I may have forgotten to add to my list, please include them. Thank you in advance for your time. I just thought this could be a good reference.

Mop barrel?
Lube slide rails and clean other "upper" parts?
Full detail clean?
Replace recoil spring?
Replace mainspring?
Replace sear spring?

If you dry fire alot, how often do you re-lube the sear nose? Would you have a different answer if you had a roll trigger?

For .45 ACP, when I was active, I'd field strip before every 2700. I like Hoppe's Elite. I'd use it in the bore first and let it sit while cleaning the slide, frame, etc. I then used a bronze bore brush (several strokes); run a clean patch through and repeat until clean. There are a lot of good lubes out there, but I used FP-10. Once a year, I'd detail strip the 1911 and clean it thoroughly. I never lubed the sear or hammer. For the .22, I would field strip it and just clean the chamber with a bent .25 cal. bronze bore brush and use a pull through patch from the muzzle to the chamber. I used Hoppe's Elite and nylon brush to clean the face of the bolt, rails and other areas of carbon/ lead buildup. I lubed the rails with FP-10. BTW, don't forget the magazines!

I detail strip and clean my 1911's twice a year. Before indoor season then before outdoor season. I sonic clean everything then CLP everything. Part of cleaning the barrel is using a purpose designed chamber brush that I believe I got from Brownells. I just changed recoil/firing pin springs in my wad gun they were 2 years old. My M41 gets the chamber cleaned with a bent .25 brush about every 6 months. I've had maybe 1 or 2 alibis with my wad gun, none with my ball gun that werent ammo related(temperature sensitive WST) and none with my M41 so this system works for me.

You should shoot them more than twice a year.......
