Giles 3-gun set on GB, $7k

Post by SmokinNJokin on Fri Dec 08, 2017 12:14 pm

Found this on GB today. 45, .38 SPL wadcutter and High Standard Military, all from the Giles shop and look to be brand new-barely used.

I think this gentlemen would be much more successful to sell each individually. They do look quite nice.

Greetings,

An excellent history lesson.

Never seen so much paperwork for a Giles.

Many thanks for the link!

Cheers,

Dave

Very cool wish I had the funds, but right before Christmas is a no go.

The wad gun accuracy test 5 shots 1 3/8" @ 50yd!
The load data:
H&G #68 Bevel Base .452 bullet, with a .463 taper crimp!
REM case and primer
IPCO lube

Don’t forget they used softer bullets back then.  So they tended to crimp heavier.  It’s what works in your gun.

I have two Giles High Standards.  One has papers.  Pix when I can find them in old files.

The load data listed on the test targets for my Toyota Wad Gun lists a .460" taper crimp on the H&G #68 bullet.   Hard to imagine.

I would love to find a super short trigger like those.
Real craftsmanship.

I use a .463 crimp on all my lead loads, works great. Shot a 94 slow fire on the long line this summer with a .463 crimp, 200 grain Zero semi wadcutter bullet, mixed brass, and 5 grains of HP-38. I thought that was the standard lead load crimp, lol.

Those are really nice pistols and some neat history.  If I had a pile of spare cash and could bring them to CA I would buy them.

They are accurate and beautiful do to precision craftsmanship. I used to borrow one from friend who had also 3 pistol set made by Giles. I shot my avatar target (in rapid/duello 3 sec. per shot) with this 38 Giles. I had a chance to buy the 3 gun set for $3K before he passed away but didn't have the funds at that time.

A lot of money for old bullseye guns.  A well cared for gun can be shot pretty hard and still look good.   This is something for a collector..
