And when using the thumb, in a one-handed grip, is the thumb parallel to the barrel or is it on a downward angle toward the trigger finger?

I’m a lefty so mine sits on top of the right grip panel. I squeeze inward at the thumb knuckle and downward with the thumb pad

To me the thumb ham is most important.  The thumb itself can do whatever works, even flying free.  I like the thumbrest on High Standard and MkII wood grips.  Put just a little down press on the rest.  Perhaps the 3D printer guy can make a 1911 panel with a HS thumbrest added
