Will Camp Perry Be Back to "Normal" This Year?

Post by Orpanaut on Tue Mar 13, 2018 1:24 pm

First topic message reminder :

I missed the National Matches last year but I remember that there was some sort of rift between the NRA and the CMP that resulted in a split schedule for the pistol phase at Camp Perry. Are they back to business as usual? The schedule for this year looks like it did a few years ago.

Actually, they've been pretty good, I've seen a lot of top shooters standing in line.

If these anti gun people get their way there will be no guns for 3 Gun and we will be shooting BE with revolvers.  Don

Hi Power will be @ Atterbury, Indiana, again this year and it seems to be gone for good.
What happened to the new Cardinal Range in Ohio? That was the hottest thread going a couple of yrs ago with lots of predictions as to the National Matches being there by now.
Wasn't there a BE match scheduled there for last summer soon after Perry?
Didn't a chap named Dane Hogle post near daily updates in support of Cardinal?

I checked on the bullseye range at the Cardinal Center last fall. At that time, it was just a cleared field and a berm. I haven't returned yet this year to check again.
Wasn't Brian Zins working with Cardinal on that? He moved out of Ohio so maybe the project has halted.

Cardinal, lots of IDPA berms

Pistol
Currently Closed for Season
Will Open March 1st 2018

The Cardinal Pistol Shooting Facility is up and running. It consists of 14 bays (40' wide by 75' deep). We currently have 2 shooting positions per bay. The first two bays have an extensive array of steel targets to challenge the beginning to advanced shooter. We can expand up to 130 shooting positions to accommodate any size outing or group.

Right, Cardinal Shooting Center has a row of those little bays for action pistol shooting but no place to host a bullseye match. I don't think it's even possible to post a target at 25 yards in one of those bays despite the stated length of 75 feet.

But there were signs of pending construction work last year so maybe a fifty yard pistol range will be available soon. I sure hope so because there really aren't any alternatives in central Ohio right now.
