IMO, the barrel bushing wrench is useless. A 3/4" 16 point socket works much better, try it.

Check Gunbroker or Numerich, they have the wrenches for $8 or so.

Thanks for the suggestions.  The pistol is new to me and I took it apart using a small brass punch to hold the plunger down.  It worked but reassembly just about required three hands. The socket sounds like a nice option.  I may have been the first person to clean the pistol since it left the factory.  It was so covered in carbon at first I thought it might have had a blued barrel.  It’s as bright as a new penny now and shoots amazingly well.  Smith’s people could sure make a great product back then.

I need a second or third magazine so I can shoot the pistol in competition without holding up the line as I reload.

I hope this link works - it should take you to the official S&W instructions on how to disassemble and re-assemble the M-52.  Try it their way - it's effortless!  ...and don't tighten the bushing more than what it says in these instructions:

Question for the forum - should I post just these instructions as a new thread, and someone can make it a "sticky"?

Just take the assembled slide off the frame, remove the recoil spring and then remove the bushing. It’s very easy that way, reassemble the same way, with a fully assembled slide.  What are magazines going for?

This is pretty typical on E-bay. They are going for around 150.00 with metal followers and a little less with plastic. But sometimes the plastic ones go for that also.

Jon, I really wasn't wanting to sell any of my S&W model 52 mags, but before you pay that $150.00, let me look and see how many spares I have. My pistol is a 52-1, but I'm certain that all the magazines are the same. I might even have a spare wrench.

I should have done my homework before settling on the price I paid for the pistol.  I assumed they might be a bit more expensive than the average magazine but was blown away when I started looking.  I might have been inclined to haggle a bit if I knew.

Be Mike has been able to assist me.

Thank you

I just wanted to thank Be Mike for helping me out!  He's an awesome man to do business with.
Thanks to all for the help, the 3/4 Inch socket suggestion works very well, BTW.
