Slide racker for S&W Model 41

Post by mikemyers on Sat Apr 28, 2018 8:50 pm

I was looking for something totally un-related, and found an unusual link that led me to this product.  For someone with arthritis, or weak hands, this might be useful.  According to the person at rimfirecentral.com who found it did work on the Model 41.  I was curious and also watched the video posted below.  Impressive!

Mike, thanks for posting this. I recently had surgery for Dupuytren's contracture on my left (non-shooting) hand. Strength recovery has been progressing, but I've been out of business in the meantime. I'm sure going to try this on my Model 41 and hopefully it will put me back on the range right now. Cool

Hopefully it make shooting the gun easier with your hand issue.

Thanks for posting this! I just bought one, as my daughter is going to start shooting matches with me, and while shooting the victory is great, racking it is tough at times for her. This is exactly what she needed.

I have grip tape on both sides of the front of the slide. Provides enough grip to rack or release the slide. Cheap fix.

In follow up, the SW22 halo "charging handle" arrived yesterday. I installed it on my Model 41 and found I did not need to remove any metal from the clamping screw as was described in the rimfirecentral.com post. It clamps in one groove of the slide serrations, and there is no play. I didn't weigh it before installation, thinking I would get from the manufacturer's spec, but they don't provide it. I didn't want to take it off again, and the weight had seemed negligible.

I haven't gotten out to shoot yet, but I am anticipating good things as I can operate it easily with the index finger of the hand that was operated on.  Below is a picture.
