1911 Grip Mount for 2X Scope

Post by Bigtrout on Tue May 22, 2018 7:46 am

Not being a competitive shooter, I'm exploring using a magnification scope on my RO9.  The 2X I mounted on my 986 has helped my shooting at 50 yds. so much I'd like to do the same for my 1911.   Have you folks had experience with 9's or .45's with mag scopes on 1911's?  All my shooting is done using a rest having fun looking for the "holy grail" load, so offhand shooting is not an issue.  Any comments please.

I use a 1.25-4 set to 4x when I test off the bench with my .45.  It works fine.  Long ago, I had some good luck shooting with that scope mounted on my .22, but it doesn't give me good results in competition anymore.

Were there any effects on the scope in terms of holding zero or double groups in the same string of shots, etc.?

I didn't have issues with my slide mounted guns or a B-Square grip mount, but way back when I was first trying to break 2600, I had trouble with a grip mount that wouldn't stay tight.  I would have to tighten the screws after every couple shots and every string of sustained fire.  I finally, gave up, pulled off the scope and broke 2600 with open sights.
