Recommendations for .45 factory practice ammunition
What do people recommend for a .45 practice (not match) factory ammunition. I'll be firing a Springfield Armory 1911 from the 25 yard line (I'm borrowing a friends - I don't know which model). I know re-loading is the preferred option, but that's not possible for me right now. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Right now I'm just shooting rimfire matches, but I'm getting in some centerfire practice while I save up for my own Range Officer.
Thanks for the help - see you on the line,
Jacob

There is some commercially available bullseye match ammo that you can get for about $30 for a box of 50 through mail order, but that doesn't sound like what you are looking for.
I shoot the Winchester white box stuff for hardball matches, and its $32.95 for a box of 100 rounds at Wal-Mart. It is harder to shoot hardball than match ammo, but if you get good shooting it, you will only shoot match ammo better.
While you are practicing and entering matches and meeting other bullseye shooters, you will eventually meet someone who will reload for you until you get to the point where you get a reloader and start making your own.

Talk to Neil at NSK. Good ammo at a great price.

www.rozedist.com has .45 ACP ammo for less than $14.00 a box if you have brass to exchange. It is match grade ammo, but you could use it for practice at that price.

Re: Recommendations for .45 factory practice ammunition
I load all my ammo the same - the best ammo that I am capable of producing. This way, whether I am shooting a match or out training, I want to know that if there are any serious flaws, it's not the equipment nor the ammo.
Recently, I purchased a case of Wolf primers. They shoot well, but I only use them for training. I prefer Federals for matches. So here is what I am doing until the Wolfs run out - I load the ammo in military cases with the Wolf primers. The military cases are very durable and with the Wolf primers, they are easily distinguished from "match" ammo. The bullet is the same - H&G68 as well as the powder charge - 5.0gr. Win. 231.
Hope this helps.
