Georgia Regional Hits All X's Empty Georgia Regional Hits All X's

Post by Olde Pilot 5/1/2019, 5:55 pm

Just returned Sunday from Dawsonville GA and the Georgia Regional. The tragic loss recently of usual Match Director LCOL Art Rozier (USAF Ret.) left a huge void in the community of the River Bend Club, the area Air Force JROTC, and all of us privileged to have known him.

Tom and Karen Davis have contributed greatly to the Regional for years, helping in organization, statistics, super lunches, personalized souvenirs, etc. This year they jumped in to handle, not only their usual contributions but, also, as Match Directors and Statistician. The result was a smoothly conducted match, safely and professionally called by David Donley, assisted by John Norris.  The Guard's and AMU's participation in force is indicative of the reputation of this Match and everyone's confidence in Tom's, Karen's  and the River Bend Club's ability to deliver. And they DID deliver-superbly!

Un-named here was also a  small army of frequently unsung volunteers who schlepped targets, prepared GREAT food, helped keep the line and the range safe, etc.. All of us thank them for all that they do. Without them no match!

End result: A Premier Event eminently worthy of LCOL Rozier and the Helton Foundation.

V/R,
Russ Gill

A great write up of the match. A lot of planning went into this match and it showed. Great food and the pecan pie was perfect.

Art was always challenging us to be better shooters. Almost every match he would add something extra (even if it was really well done trash talk). Our November BE matches at South River would have one of each 50 yard Slow Fire (22, CF, 45) have a contest for best X for a prize (A turkey, a Boston Butt, a bottle of Wild Turkey, etc). Our regional matches would have some International event like Free Pistol and Standard Pistol. Our Air Pistol events would have finals because Art said we need to learn how to shoot them. Art was a real force and influence in the region. He helped a lot of new shooters get started.

Art and Tom (and team) really hit their stride with the Lt. Helton Memorial tournaments. Every one so far has been great to participate in.

Au revoir
