Most "kits" are junk. Buy individual rods and brushes as needed. Spend some cash up front and you'll have high quality rods for life. Also invest in good bore cleaner, lead remover, CLP and oil.

+1 for Zane's comment and recomendation.  Avoid all aluminum rods at all costs. There are many quality makers of cleaning gear.  My preference is Pro Choice, they make quality stuff, it is usually available at many gun shops and it is priced within reason.
