Cheap 1911 Springfield entry level gun Empty Cheap 1911 Springfield entry level gun

I came across this on GunBroker. No interest for me, but it would appear to offer a very inexpensive entry to Bullseye 45 for someone.

OK, I would ditch the compensator and, if necessary, swap out the reflex red dot, but at least try it first - might be perfectly fine.

Probably will need a trigger job - lots of other threads on the forum giving advice/opinion on that. IMHO this is a bargain if it eventually goes for less than $400.

Is the scope rail too close slide stop and they cut it or is it made that way ? Forward hole on RS looks like it's missing screw?

That is not an R.O. most likely a Mil-Spec.

Yes, KB2MBC, on second look, you might be right. No target sight groove, so probably not an RO.

But - look at the bigger picture. Its already fitted with a rail. The red dot might be serviceable - or sell it on for a few bucks. The grips look decent and it is generally tidy.

As with almost everything in life - it all comes down to what it sells for. Less than $400 is still a good deal, IMHO.

For someone on a tight budget looking to add a cheap, but serviceable, 1911 45 to their existing 22 I think that this might be just the ticket.

And, just to be clear, NFI.

Mil-Spec, Looks like they changed the safety, trigger, grips, main spring housing with mag well, added compensator, scope rail and red dot.  Still has the original 1911 hammer and grip safety.  Looks like they ground down the rear sight???   Probably a homemade effort to make an inexpensive race gun.

Edit:  I stand corrected,   SA did make a model around the late 80's/early 90's with the right slide stamped Factory Comp which this one has.  The left side of the slide said Model 1911-A1 and the caliber (which is covered by the scope frame mount).  Evidently, they made them in 38 Super and 45 ACP.   They had what looks like a Videcki style Trigger, and Bomar type rear sight.  2-hole compensator.   Is it me or is it missing all the screws on the left side for the scope rail?   From the photos it looks to me like the scope mount might interfere with shell ejection, these didn't have the enlarged ejection ports like the more modern models have.   Scope is a Hakko Panarama MK III, a less expensive version of the C-More.

Now that I look at it, the finish doesn't look parkerized and the picture 9/26 shows writing on the slide that isn't found on a Mil-Spec.

The finish is their version of Parkerized.  The gun is a Mish-mash.  The mag well /mainspring housing is stainless, the compensator is add-on and the sight and mount is old.  I wouldn’t pay much more than 500 for that mess.

They stopped making Springfield factory comp guns years ago.  It was a fairly high quality (for the time) factory built compensated pistol for competition.  I got one in the late 80s and put a mag well and frame mount on it to shoot bowling pins.

It's worth more as is, a newer 45 would make a better base gun for some kind of build.

I don’t think SA custom would let THAT gun out of the shop!

Originally assembled in the custom shop but not a custom item.  And it's had some parts added and swapped out.  I'd also figure that someone removed the rear sight and put a blank in the dovetail.  They probably wouldn't trash a good sight.

It's a parts gun. Could very well be a money pit. Run away.

Certainly not an expert, but I talk to some and get advice.  Dave Salyer says that the SA RO is the cost effective way to get into 45 BE shooting.  I had a SA RO Operator shipped to him from GrabAGun.  He added a rail and a new bushing and an Ultradot UD25 (4MOA) to it and tuned the trigger and the bushing.  I have had a Distinguished (2 if you include Dave) shoot it.  I will not live long enough to outgrow its accuracy.  I chose the Operator so I could mount my MantisX system on it.

I have seen many stock Range Officers listed on Armslist and the local sites in the $600 - $650 range.  Dave’s parts and labor and shipping to me and local FFL fees were about  $700.

This gun does not look like anything that Dave would want to touch.  He steered me away from some guns that looked like bargains...

By the way, it really says factory comp under the frame mount, not custom shop.  I don't know that the custom shop ever saw those guns.

And the comp isn't add-on, they built it that way.  The mag well is add on.
