1960's Equipment Question
Back in the early 1960's what would have been the dominating 22 rimfire pistol model that people used in Bullseye? I understand the S&W Model 41, various High Standards, and the Colt Match Target were available but what did people gravitate towards? What was in the hands of the Master class shooters and national champions?

Re: 1960's Equipment Question
Joe Benner used Hi-Standard. Gil Hebard published two articles in Gun Digest that touched on selecting a 22 pistol. The recommended choices were Ruger MK1, Hi-Standard Target models, Colt Woodsman Match Target, Smith 41 and 46, Hammerli or a custom from the likes of Giles, Shockey, Clark or Dinan, but these would be re-works of one of these basic pistols.
These articles were re-printed in the Pistol Shooters Treasury.

Re: 1960's Equipment Question
My Dad worked at the Army AMU from 1957-1959. He retired from the Army and then went to work at the Air Force AMU until 1964. Most everything he worked on were Hi Standards and was was partial to them. March 1960 issue of the American Rifleman has an article on the handguns of the Champions you might be interested in reading. If you are PM me and I will e-mail it to you. I have never had any success in posting to this site. If I had looked further I believe Barry G posted the article I was speaking about, but I could not get it to open.

Re: 1960's Equipment Question
My 70s coach and mentor, LtC Miller told me many shot High Standards in the 50s and into the 60s. Coach learned much himself about HS from Joe Benner. Then he passed a lot of HS info on to me.

Super neat article. Interesting a couple were still using revolvers for CF just for fear of malfunctions with the 38/45 autos.
