Benelli MP 90/95 Better Recoil Buffer free! Empty Benelli MP 90/95 Better Recoil Buffer free!

If you want a DIY tip on benellis as to the buffer. I will pass it along, I ordered several of Larry Carters buffers for my benelli and had issues with feeding, a friend and long time benelli owner showed, made me one that worked way better than the factory and Larrys, he took out the buffer and using one of those cheap advertising key fobs, you probily have them lying around, its the ones that are the same thickness as the buffer and made out of that  rubber that is translucent or solid color, long as its not the hard rubber kind, lay the buffer on it and outline with a sharpie then cut it out and put it in. I guarantee once you use one of these  you wont use anything else, doesnt crumble like the factory and cures many of the benellis function issues if you have them and lasts a long time.

That's a really great suggestion. Do they hold up pretty well? Thanks

way better than stock or larrys, the stock ones tend to break into pieces over time, larrys are just too hard and work well for the first few hundred rounds then in my gun started to cause failure to feed. The one we made was still showing no signs of wear after several hundred rounds and zero feeding issues.

I think my Benelli is doing the same thing. Fresh Larry's buffer, everything worked great, but now several hundred rounds have gone through it, it's starting to have problems feeding - more precisely chambering - the next round. I'd try your suggestion, but I don't know what material you are talking about. The only advertising key fobs I have are half the thickness of the buffers. Also, there are probably dozens of different materials they're made from. Is there any source you can tell us for exactly the right kind?
TIA,

the ones im talking about are of a rubber type, some are translucent some not, if you can barely make a imprint with your fingernail in it it will work, if you cant find one send me your address and i will send you one.

Just made a couple, and installed one. It's about a 1/16" thinner than a Larry's buffer, but I think it will work ok. Heading to the range tomorrow.

I used one of the fobs that kind of looks like colored gelatin, but is pretty hard. Pretty sure it's made of polyurethane .

Thanks again for the great tip.

forgot to update some time ago. The "keychain" buffer works great! No problems and a virtually unlimited supply of buffers. Thanks again David R.

This is embarrassing - I thought I had also posted thanking DavidR for his help with the buffer, but it looks like I didn't - my bad! Not only did David post these instructions, but he even sent me a proper key fob because I couldn't find one. It works great! Many thanks.

I would appreciate pictures or a link to some pictures
I recently purchased one of these .22s and the buffer is as hard as a rock, the replacement buffers are also hard.
I would like to try making one of these
I found a Key FOB but it is a little thin
I will find a thicker one at some point and try to make one
Thanks, DaveV

I dont have pics, you just take a pliable rubber key fob, and lay a buffer on top and draw a outline then cut it out and instal it, very simple.

I never found a key FOB the right thickness.
I did have some soft 1-1/2" diameter 1/4" wall thickness clear vinyl tubing and that worked very well.
I cut the little ears into the buffer like the one I pried out.
Thanks for a great tip !

best places to get the key fobs, is thrift, goodwill and garage sales. a slightly thinner one will work if they are pliable and have some give when you press your thumbnail into it.

Benelli MP 90/95 Better Recoil Buffer free! Empty just a guess

Post by FredB Thu Dec 05, 2013 1:16 pm

Just a guess, but I think there's a good possibility that after 500 rounds using an eraser buffer, there will be nothing left in the buffer area, and the gun will be full of small sticky rubber pieces. Erasers are made to come apart - that's how they work.

That could be true. I used the gray drafters eraser. My recoil spring tube is not open at the end. It closed and nice and round and does not dig into the eraser. after 1200 rounds there is not a mark in it. I have not had a stove pipe or FTF problem since.

Benelli MP 90/95 Better Recoil Buffer free! Empty Here's a commercial source of material

Post by CraigB5940 Fri Oct 05, 2018 7:03 am

I had no rubber keyfobs around the house so I bought some material. My MP 90 in 32 S&W long simply refused to function for more than one or two rounds with  the replacement white and black buffers from Larry Carter. It went 3K rounds with the factory buffer in it from when I bought it new last year with 1 malfunction.

I got this at Mc Master Carr for $6.52 plus shipping. Initial testing on yielded no malfunctions on my first 50 rounds. If this turns out to be on the soft side for buffer life, they have a huge assortment of materials to experiment with, this is medium hardness, the next step I will try is medium hard in Buna rubber or medium hard in neoprene.

This 3 ft strip will make at least 36 buffers.

Try CARMAX  I got mine when I bought my Vehicle there. Bright yellow rubber. You can make about 6 buffers out of one key fab.

Cut it close with a razor blade and glue it on with SEAL ALL contact adhesive.

Benelli MP 90/95 Better Recoil Buffer free! Empty Great advice! Works terrific

Post by croesler Thu Oct 11, 2018 9:22 pm

I wish I had more of the old key chain fobs, but the one I found (clear red) was the right thickness and contributed enough material to make 6 buffers. Based on how the first one is working, 6 might be a lifetime supply.  It works absolutely fantastic in both .32 and .22.  Big thanks!

I will have to try some of that rubber strip. The key fob material isn't working like I hoped. I can only get about 200 rounds out of the key fob material, then a divot starts forming in the buffer which leads to less recoil spring pressure on the bolt, which leads to light firing pin hits because the bolt is not held tight in battery. But, I did find that turning the buffer around gives me 200 more rounds. But it's not like it's difficult to change the buffer, as it takes all of 15 seconds.
