Hello,
Michael Martin here from under the cloudy skies in NE Ohio. Currently unemployed due to the Chinese Virus pandemic. I have been shooting bullseye since roughly 2005. Started in USPSA action pistol games around 1993. Tool and Die maker, S&W revolver fan, and hand gun nut. Have owned lots of bullseye guns in the past 15 years: Les Baer, Hammerli, Benelli, Pardini, S&W 41, S&W 52, and a host of others. My most recent indoor average scores were 278rf and 258cf. I have shot better...seems like at my age things are going downhill....can anyone relate to that? hahaha...I have gotten lots of enjoyment out of this sport, and learned a lot...about technique and equipment. I belong to the Warren Gun Club, and shoot bullseye in the Warren/Lowellville Leagues, and at Greenville, Pennsylvania's White Oak Bullseye League shoots.

I am offering for sale some "redundancies" in my collection:

1. Marvel conversion on a Para frame. 2&1/2lb trigger pull. Ultradot Match Dot 30mm red dot scope. Used for a short while. 2 Marvel plastic magazines. $1000.00
2. Nelson conversion on a checkered SS Fusion frame. 2&3/4 lb trigger pull. Ultradot Match Dot 30mm red dot scope. Test fired only. 2 Nelson plastic magazines. $1250.00

These are complete running bullseye pistols that are "extra" in my handgun lineup. Had to try everything....I'm sticking with what I'm more familiar with....and trying to recap some funds to cover lost income. I used either CCI Std Vel or Aguila Super Extra Std Vel ammo with these guns.

More info, and pictures available on request. Best way for me to exchange pictures is via cell phone text messaging. I am active on the S&W and Ruger forums, but this seemed to be the best place to list these two pistols.

Thanks for looking.

Michael, welcome to the forum, you came to the right place both to sell your stuff and to hang out with like minded people. You can't swing a stick in here without hitting several retired machinists.

The difference in weight of the 2 is interesting.  How much of that difference is the different frame vs the different conversion?

How is reliability with each using the 2 loads you mentions (CCI Std Vel and Aguila Super Extra Std Vel)?

Am I right to assume that the weight difference in Nelson is due to steel slide/bolt vs Marvel aluminum? If so, what about rib material?

Marvel has aluminum rail...Nelson is steel. To be honest I didn't check the "bolt" or moving section. The CCI ammo is just a tad "stronger" but the guns ran fine with either. I Haven't shot either gun a lot, but they don't seem to have issues. Spring tuning is a bullseye thing....dud ammo is a current 22 thing....am I supposed to offer a 100% guarantee??? (sorry...minor rant, but the guns run well.)

Frames differ in weight.  My two most used conversions (not used much lately though) are on a Range Officer frame and the other on a Les Baer frame.  I forget which is which but the lighter frame with a steel ribbed conversion equals the weight of the heavier frame with an aluminum rib.  The uppers are a Bob Marvel Custom Pro II, and an AA with Bob Marvel barrel.

And remember an aluminum Marvel (brand) rib will go on a Nelson with just a little work.

I didn't think my question was insulting; it certainly wasn't intended to be so.  And I didn't think that I was asking for 100% guarantee.  Some guns function better with some ammo vs others.

...good info, I didn't build them together, having owned the Marvel first, and never really compared the two on a scale 'til it was picture time the other day. I campaign a Ruger 22/45 5.5" bull barrel that I have a 6oz. weight on under the barrel. First time out this year outdoors (50yd-25yd) Wednesday I managed a 93-97-97 for a 287 8x. Certainly a nice start for my outdoor season!

.........okay....my humor borders sarcastic...no one insulted me....I'm not offended......and don't mean to be offensive. Just speaking as if among shooting buddies. Topic replies here seem to work differently than some forums....or else I am missing something....pax vobiscum...

Nelson and Marvel both use aluminum slides. Exception is Marvel steel slide which is not as popular because of price difference. Nelson's standard rail is heavier than standard Marvel rail. But you can get heavier Marvel rails now.
So it's possible to have many combinations now.

I don't mean to highjack the thread, so if someone wants to school me on the PM I will be greatful. I thought Nelsons were steel or aluminum slide, is that not so? I though that Tactical Solutions and Nelson, plus older Kart and Stahl were the only full steel options. School me please.  I have Advantage Arms that had lots of fitting to function well but is now amazing, though I want more weight to it.
