32 ACP loading press recommendation
First topic message reminder :
Looking for recommendation for a press for 32 ACP for bullseye
Dillon dies not recommend the 750 due the small cartridge size
the 550 is a manual indexer - would prefer an automatic one
if only Dillon made dies for the SDB that I already have
thanks in advance for the feedback

I deprime .32acp using a LEE APP press before wet tumbling. Best $75.00 I ever spent.James Hensler wrote:So I guess you use a universal decapping dierkittine wrote:I decap mine and tumble before loading, but I don't resize them first.
Here's a video if it works -

Now that "takes the biscuit", what a brilliant little machine!
Gotta have one of those - unfortunately Mr. Lorenz's "$75" is now $150 if you can find one, then another few bucks for those fancy breech lock bushings, but just gotta have one anyhow! Already on the way!
This thread is costing me a bloody fortune! Between selling my Star, following Jim Hensler's advice, then Mr. Lorenz tops them all. Grrr...

I have a universal Harvey, hand decapping unit. Deprime when sitting in front of the TV. Great grip exercise. Helps my Dupitryn's Contracture!

Lee is out of stock of the APP at $110 but Midway has them in stock for $80. I just ordered one.

Yeah people laugh when I say I use a Lee Press but they have stuff that works.
I don’t have the APP so I use my ABLP Press to do the same thing. As fast as you can pull the handle

James, how low can you set the powder charge on the Lee?

Re: 32 ACP loading press recommendation
Lee isn't fancy but it works for lots of applications. I like that they include a shell holder in their die sets. Why doesn't everyone do that and charge a little extra?
I'm buying an APP just to get rid of the depriming function on the Dillon. It makes a huge mess...but being able to size bullets, deprime, bust case bulges, remove military crimp, etc away from my main presses is fantastic.

The auto drum works exactly like a micrometer. I have tested the 2 I own down to 1.2 and they throw that every time. I have mine 32 ACP one set at 1.6 and I quit counting after 25 in a row

I wonder how “fast” it would run if you could figure out a way to motorized it..? Hmmm?

Probably fast enough to destroy quite a lot of brass

Re: 32 ACP loading press recommendation
I have seen 45 ammunition Ransom 1" at 50 yds loaded on a Lee Load Master press.
It’s no Star but if you set it up right it will load quality ammo. And yes you must be mechanically inclined.

I hope once I get my Ransom Rest this Loadmaster will do 1 inch! From my bags it has done 10x so that’s under 2 inch

Re: 32 ACP loading press recommendation
James, the lee website does not list a 32 ACP shell plate for the beech lock model, what are you using for the shell plate?
Thanks,

Re: 32 ACP loading press recommendation
I have a few Star Presses in the 70s. .38 / 9mm / .45 and .380. They were my favorite though not so easy to change over, but this will just be loading .32 S&W Long WCs.

Re: 32 ACP loading press recommendation
I know nothing about the stars except I really want one for some reason haha. Do they have proprietary dies? When I load for my Pardini 32 acp I do a 3 stage expanding. Would that be possible on the star?

Found one for you:
https://www.bullseyeforum.net/t15076-star-universal-in-45-acp-price-lowered
(I'm assuming you can change the dies to the size you need - if not, I guess this wouldn't work for you....)

Re: 32 ACP loading press recommendation
Ah, Mike, sincere contribution, but, unfortunately, Star's are a very different beast from anything you have seen/used.
Can you switch calibers? Yes.
Is it easy? Unfortunately, no.
The original Star dies are not 7/8x14 thread like almost all current day machines. Original Star dies in 32ACP are quite hard to find.
It is possible to have a Star toolhead modified to accept 7/8x14 thread dies, but not easy and definitely not cheap.
Star fans are dedicated and committed. They swear by the quality of the ammo their machines produce. Stars are definitely not a mass market device. IMHO.

Re: 32 ACP loading press recommendation
I was looking at that exact press a few weeks ago, if it's from Bruce. Glad you got it. I'm getting one from a forum member setup for .32 acp.
From what I have heard (multiple master and HM's), more long line accurate .32 ammo is built on Star presses than any other brand.
Re: 32 ACP loading press recommendation
I don’t know about that one??
