This 1981 produced Colt was built by USMC armorers for a Captain to compete in Quantico matches.
Full Bomar rib and sights with extended front, Barstow match grade barrel,NM bushing, speed hammer and Videcki trigger, smaller GI safety, extended mag well, and more, very smooth and very tight build.  Very few rounds other than test firing as condition indicates.

I have not fired it, and I don't have any test targets.  The parts and quality of the build would suggest 2" gun or better

Cool gun. Is there any documentation that validates the USMC lineage and work done by a Quantico based armorer? Approx Year?

It's crazy the amount of amazing pistols turning up these days and not selling quick. This looks like an amazing buy. Too bad I don't have enough cash for them all.

Surprised that loose of a crimp didn't scatter them at 50 yds. That's almost no crimp at all. Was group shot with irons?

True, I'm down to .463" but no more than .469" with lead.

Sharp pistol for sure.  Looks like a Bomar tuner?  Guess you could take that off and mount a rib.

Is a rib like that legal for CMP EIC ?

Rib is not legal for EIC, See rule 4.1.2 for allowable EIC modifications. Rule 4.1.1 i) specifically prohibits extended front sights.

Is the tuner being used to support the hood of the barrel or is it just there as a filler because a Barsto barrel was fit?

Good Morning. This is important question. Is barrel being locked up by the tuner?
Thanks

If you loosen the tuner and there in no vertical play between barrel and slide (slide stop pin) then barrel was fit to the slide and not using the tuner; typically tuner built guns will have loose barrel when tuner is loosened up.

Colt BE builds of old/past used stock barrels that were welded up and refit to the pistol for accurizing into BE pistol. The upper barrel lugs will still be undersized and the barrel will sit high in the slide. Now you have potential issues with off center firing pin strike and the need for a really long barrel link. The accuracy tuner from Bomar rest on top of the barrel hood and kept the barrel from setting too high in the slide. Unfortunately you lose upper lug lockup into the slide and the pistol will recoil harder from not being able to keep the pistol in battery as long as a fully engaged locking lug like a modern barrel provides. Also the barrel will wear the slide locking lugs unevenly. I see this regularly when I rebuild/rebarrel older tuner guns. The Kart XAct fit barrel does the same thing. Less lockup equals more felt recoil. I hope this answers your question.

heres the definite answer:  I just removed the tuner plug completely, and the barrel is tight--zero movement.  The Barstow barrel is fit to the gun.
