Primers (in stock) Empty Primers (in stock)

Post by mikemyers Sat 5 Sep - 23:01

I've got enough brass, WST, and large pistol primers to last me for a while, but not a lot of small pistol primers.  On the other hand, I've got a lot (for me) of 22LR, in case I need to give up center fire for a while.  Then there's bullets - will try to get more from Terry at Magnus, but I'm going to run out of bullets about when I run out of primers.

Any suggestions on how/where to find some primers?
I've only used CCI for years.  Are the others equally good, worse, better?

The primers that seem to work the best are the ones you can get.
I HOPE to get thru this election/panic cycle.

Locally at Mayhoods Sporting Goods in Norwich NY had small/lg  rifle. pistol & 209 shotgun  at $45/1000 & Match grades at at $50.00. Plenty of ammo including CCI 22's. Plenty of guns too. Good place to go.

Mike, none in stock now, but I've had my best luck here. https://ammoseek.com/

Set up in-stock notifications at the usual places.

Be quick on the trigger. Pay whatever they ask. The difference between a 3 cent and 6 cent primer in the grand scheme of the costs we incur to play this game is negligible.

And next time, listen to us when we tell you to buy a 8-10 year supply when they're plentiful. It's not like no one saw this coming 3 years ago ... or even 6 months ago. Smile Next chance to stock up might not be for 5 or 10 years. So it goes.

Sometimes when I am mentally in a dark place I think about sending out a letter to estate attorneys saying that I am looking to buy ammunition and firearms components.  I think there is so much of this stuff stockpiled that you could get a ton of this stuff from estates of shooters who have died.  A while back I was at a house for sale and the late owner was a shooter/gunsmith and the basement looked like a gun shop there was so much stuff.  I let the sellers agent know I was interested but I think somebody in the family had already made arrangements.  Anyway I hope to last longer than all the ammo I have stockpiled.

Well, I thought I did "stock up", but not with a many year supply.  I've probably got a one year supply of most of what I need, and back then I hadn't planned on reloading 38 Special for a long time.

You are so right though.  When things start to become available, I'll try to stock up, but so will everyone else, which means it might be a long wait.
