They use one at the range I shoot at when they a match. 

Select "Slow Fire", "Timed Fire", or "Rapid Fire" and press the button and it calls out the commands and and sounds a horn.

It also has a number of other commands for other disciplines of timed shooting

Uses a 9v battery and is about 3" x 5".

I figured that someone here must have one that they no longer use...
