First topic message reminder :

I'm looking for a 44 mag lever action rifle that isn't a rossi or a large loop. Its not really bullseye related but I can't find one anywhere for a decent price. Text at 361-208-5979

I hunted with a  old 1970s 1894 Marlin in 44 for years. Killed a ton of whitetails with it
All one shot. Longest range was a tad over 100 yds. I'd keep the gun at that range and less. We ran reloads using 240hr hornady jacked Hp. Great bullet they no longer make.

ISO 44 mag lever action rifle - Page 2 Empty Henry

Post by rich.tullo 12/1/2020, 9:18 pm

I have a Henry 45-70, they only thing I do not like is a the lack of loading gate. It is a far better hog gun than a 44 Magnum and probably more humane over 75 yards. The only reason to shoot 44 Mag is if your state only allows pistol cartridges for hunting.

Man if you think Marlin 1995 are pricey check out what they are asking for Winchesters, OMG......

The great thing about 45 70 is you can load cowboy loads and have a soft shooting gun.

Henry just released their weather proof version of the 44 mag with side loading gate.  I love Henry's but would  not consider buying one until they had the loading gate.

I have two Rossi rifles - both are great - very smooth actions and one functions well - I have never shot the other, only cycled the action.  The one I shoot is a 20-inch stainless 454.  The other is one of the ultra rare stainless Ruger 480s.  So, my experience with Rossi has been good.
