SPF- ...Reduced....FS: S&W model 14-3 FULL LUG barrel, 38 special
SOLD,
For sale:
S&W model 14-3, FULL LUG 6" barrel. Tight, accurate, in great shape, with factory grips. I shot it for 1 year in indoor winter pistol league ( ISU match). 2.5 grains of Bullseye with 148 grain HBWC gave 1-hole groups at 50 feet. Min endshake. Minimum cylinder rotational play in cocked/carry up condition. Tight gun. Low round count.
No box, tools or paperwork.
This is a 14-3 stamped frame, no ifs ands or butts. I can not give any reason why this 14-3 has a S&;W factory blued 38 Special full-lug barrel on it. Sent back to the factory for a rebuild/ rebarreling? Your guess is as good as mine. I bought it used, and in this condition. Shoots amazingly well, with a beautiful crisp trigger.
The grips are checkered walnut factory grips with sharp checkering. There is NO DIAMOND in the middle of the grip in the fastener ("grip screw") area.
I am selling this revolver as a fine shooting S&;W model 14-3 that has a full lug 6 inch barrel. I have no idea of the background, or previous ownership of this revolver, other than I bought it, had it shipped to my FFL, and it cleared the NICS check. I did not make any modifications to it. It shoots and handles wonderfully. It is 38 special. It is 6 rounds. It is a factory S&;W blued 38 special full lug barrel. It is stamped "38 S&W SPECIAL cartridge" on the barrel. It is not a takeoff 357 mag barrel from a S&W 586. The revolver appears to have original blue finish on barrel/frame /cylinder. The bore is bright and shiny with sharp rifling.
Price reduced, from $700+ shipping, to...$700 INCLUDING SHIPPING/INSURANCE TO LOWER 48. Comes in soft zippered case.
my email is in my profile, if you would like a picture.

the 14-3 would be '68-76, the full lug didn't arrive till '91, so I'm thinking a rebuild.
nice combination though.
what's the first 4 of serial #?

Definitely an altered pistol. The 5K serial and the pinned barrel precede the full under lug. It still may be a nice shooter though.

M-14 for PPC!!??
Your M14 may have been modified for PPC. The height of the front sight may allow for neck hold at 50 yards! And 14 clicks down for POI/POA at 25/15/7 yards on the regulation B-27 PPC target!
A set of Davis (large) grips and you'd be "golden"!

Does raise the question again about gaming the rules for PPC though.

Well, Smith & Wesson did have a full under lug 14 in their catalog. If we’re going to parse the rules to specific configurations, you had better have factory records by serial number.

I have heard of shooters on n PPC doing this mod. However, according to the rules it is disallowed. I have heard of referees DQing shooters in PPC for this specific mod. Any ref could just open the yoke and see it was a 14-3 and know S&W did not make a 14-3 with an under lug barrel.

Would they really be that petty? A model 14 was at one time offered with a full length under lug. Is it not legal to clone or rebuild a model 14 with that option? I understand that the particular frame being used wasn’t originally sold with a full length under lug, but it’s not like putting a full length under lug on a model that was never sold with one in the first place.
I think this is sort of one of those situations where it’s up to the referee or match director but personally I would argue that the barrel is a S&W factory barrel, on a model 14, and model 14’s did come with these barrels from
The factory at one point in time. It’s a clone of a factory gun. Nothing else is on there that would not have been from S&W.

This gun could qualify as a Open Revolver but may not qualify for Distinguished Revolver!

Spirit of the law vs letter of the law....this revolver should be DR legal. No different than if you had to replace a broken hammer on a 14-3 with a 14-10 hammer. Let’s not get petty about it.
My 2 cents.

Unfortunately the referees often “get petty”. Remember PPC and Bullseye are different sports with different rules. And BTW I agree with the above post- it would qualify in open just not distinguished.

Thanks. I am trying to sell a nice, accurate revolver, with an honest, accurate disruption. This isn't a discussion thread. If you have a question about the item, I will do my best to answer. If you would like to buy it, please post an "I'll take it" on this thread. It is a fine shooting revolver.

You have a great gun at a great price! If I didn't already have a K-38 and M-14 I'd be all over this!buttstock wrote:Thanks. I see the full underlug barrel as an added bonus for both casual shooters and serious competitors as well.
All the best,

The hammer pad is checkered, ~0.375" wide x 0.50" long.
The trigger is ~ 0.250" wide, uniform thickness, and with vertical grooves.
Thanks for your interest.

This is one great deal! If I didn't already have a very nice 14-3, I'd grab it (and I'm still tempted!).
