colored or tinted eyeglass lens
colored or tinted eyeglass lens
I see some shooters with colored lens in their shooting glasses, most frequently yellow or orange.
What is the purpose/benefit of this, especially for a bullseye shooter who is 95% indoor? If it matters I only shoot with a red dot.
My dad used to have yellow lenses when he was shooting trap, something about the clay pigeon standing out better.
I did search, and didn't come up with much discussion on this.
Thanks in advance.

I shoot “orange” outdoors as it cuts the blue light a bit so definition is better. I shoot clear indoors because the light is very dim and I want to get all the light I can. Dots or irons.

Yellow and especially Pale Amber (a super-light tint) lenses can improve contrast in low-light situations. I have my shooting glasses tinted to the latter, and use them outdoor too. It's a small difference, but I find it helps. Everyone's eyes are different though.

Outdoors I use a yellow on cloudy days, when the sun is not bright it makes the bull stand out out better for me. I put the polarizing lenses on my Ultra Dots when the sun is shining bright on the target, it makes the dot stand out nicely on the black bull and eases the bright reflection on the rest of the target.
When I used to shoot black and white film with clouds, I'd put a red filter on the camera to accentuate the clouds, otherwise the sky was washed out grey.
