Powder choices Empty Powder choices

Post by Mightyheb Sat 13 Feb - 15:02

Good morning all. I have been using Bullseye and VN 310. I have a dillon press.

Is there a different powder for mainly 45 acp that feeds well and is a good powder.

Thanks

+1. Meters exceptionally well. Also, the recoil impulse is more a push, and less a snap than 310 or BE.

IMHO. And rather limited experience. I think that 310 meters better than WST.

I had a problem with WST absorbing moisture (my bad, cause I left some in the hopper for a few months).

But 310 is also definitely sensitive to ambient conditions - does not like cold/damp.

BE seems to be dead reliable, but quite dirty. Never used it for 45ACP though.

Just my 2c. YMMV!

Clays, if you have some and want to try something else.

I have original Clays (Austrailia before the fire) and have not tried the "new" stuff made in Canada if I'm not mistaken.

W231 meters very well and is fairly clean burning. Just my experience.

All good choices mentioned.  Titegroup is another that is a ball powder and meters extremely well.  Cleaner than BE.

I love Clays, but found it doesn't meter well.  The spread from high to low charges was nearing 1 grain.  310 meters great and producing more consistent short line, high volume loads out of my Dillon 650.

Unfortunately, I found the same. Maybe just the types of thrower.
Most large flake powders have bridging issues.
But, when it’s right, it’s a great powder.

If you can find it Vectan Ba10 made by Nobel Sports out of Germany is a little known powder that I really like.  Here are the pros for it: it is a ball type powder that flows extremely well, burns super super clean, has a very fast burn rate, produces good velocity with very low powder charges, consistent velocities, the last that I bought from Grafs was $18.29 for a 1.1 pound bottle (they are sold out - go figure).  The biggest con: data is extremely limited but available on Graf's website.  I came across this powder buy way of Target Talk (I think it was) on a post by Brian Enos who tried it during the last powder shortage during the Obama years.  I am running 3.3 grs under a 185 gr Nosler that groups just under 2" out of my wad gun when bench rested over sandbags at fifty yards.

The choices are.........whatever you can find. Mad
I recently switched to Alliant Sport Pistol. Meters well, not too dirty and shows good recoil impulse.
Others say it's a substitute for VV320, but they say that about everything.
It is quite a bit cheaper than VV, about half price if that makes a difference.

I have an Auto Trickler (not cheap) for doing precision rifle. I also use it for ransom rest testing. I too was trying to use Clays on my progressive. A lot of crunching was going on and the throws were very inconsistent. I have made a lot of loads to RR once the weather improves. Never used Clays before. Looking forward to the results. If I were to rely on just one powder it would be WST.

WST has worked very well for me in 45 and 38. I think ??? it burns cleaner than BE.
I go with WSF for 230 grain hardball loads. Yes, I like the punch and recoil from full power 45 ACP ball ammo. That is what I went Distinguished with.

Is there any pistol powder NOT cleaner than BE?
