I need a reloading die set for the .224 Harvey Kay-Chuk. This a wildcat designed for the Smith & Wesson rim fire revolver. It is based on a shortened .22 Hornet case.
Thank you.

The revolver should arrive in a day or so. It is a C&R, so it will come directly to me. There were about 30 converted by Harvey before he sold the rights to Bennet’s Gun Works, and they converted about 300 S&W rimfire revolvers.
I plan to shorten .22 Hornet cases by .050”, and use either .22 Hornet dies or .22 Jet dies to seat bullets for fire forming the cases.
If anyone has a set of dies in .224 Harvey Kay-Chuk, I would like to buy them.

I do not know anything about their product but I did find these people on the web.  Not cheap but it is a source of brass perhaps?

I saw them as well - at more than $4.00 each, it is too rich for my blood. I have quite a few new .22 Hornet cases that I purchased for a rifle. I plan to dedicate a 100 or so to the revolver.
Hornady will custom make dies based on three fired cases for $180.00 and 20 weeks lead time.
I still need to check with Huntington and and C&H.

There seems to be a couple variants. Blown out, or the later version was just a shortened Hornet.

It looks like maybe the blown out version is a shortened K-Hornet. Redding has dies for that as a catalog item.

FWIW ... which may be worthless.

A chamber cast would be rather valuable.

This cartridge was designed, lived briefly in the late 1950s, and then died upon the introduction of the .22 Jet.
Reliable information is difficult to discover. There is a school of thought that this cartridge is superior to the Jet (I have a S&W Model 53 in .22 Jet). I intend to compare them.
I think the Kay-chuk is a blown out, shortened Hornet. As you said, there may be more than one version. I plan to fireform some cases to see what I have.
This forum has a lot of institutional memory about many things firearms related. Even if there is not a set of dies someone might be willing to sell, I expect to learn something.

The model 17 is .222. I accidentally bought some .222 thinking I could use them in my hornet but they fall right out of the case. They are for 22 Jet. I would be Leary of .224. I have no use for the box so let me know if you need.

The 40 grain Hornady .222 bullet (item #2210) was made (I think) for the early .22 Hornet rifle - the first Hornets had .222 groove diameter. It was also used for the Kay-Chuk and .22 Jet.
I have a Kimber of Oregon Model 82 (left-hand) in .22 Hornet from the mid-1980s, and it is standard .223 bore diameter.

The Hornet came out of the 22 WCF, which used .228 bullets. As did the 22 Savage. Odd, but that's what you'd get with a .22 bore.

I think Springfield used rimfire barrels and that drove the .222, and/or .223 bullets in it. All the modern Hornet barrels are .224 AFAIK. But I've never slugged one.

I've got an H&R M-4 that I'm thinking of making another barrel for. It has a muzzle brake brazed on the original 14" barrel. Noisy (hah), and spits a bit of garbage out now and then. Copper fouls badly as well. Might make the new one a 'K'.

My Ruger #1 .218 Bee, and the #3 Hornet, both like the 40 gr V-Max. Tried some Sierra Hornet style bullets, 40 or 45 I don't remember, and a couple others in the <55 gr weight range, but the V-Max beat them all.

Both with 4227. Last testing I did with the Bee was with some of the early'ish Russian primers, the copper cup standard version that pierce at high pressure. Very mild primer, took half the vertical out of the groups. Might be worth a try to use pistol primers if you're loading to a reasonable pressure.

The USPS assures me the Kay-Chuk will arrive on the 25th. I will try to fireform some cases and post pictures by the weekend.

I am still looking for a set of .224 Kay-Chuk dies.
The revolver has arrived. I am going to trim some Hornet cases and see if I can seat bullets for fire-forming using my .22 Jet dies.
