SOLD: S&W 586-3 $750 Empty SOLD: S&W 586-3 $750

Post by Oleg G Tue Jun 01, 2021 10:32 am

I have come to a sad realization that I cannot shoot revolvers. Shooting them single-action causes me pain in the first joint of my thumb due to arthritis, and shooting revolvers double-action aggravates my elbow tendinitis to the point of having sharp pain after about 50 shots. There goes my dream of shooting a Bullseye match with "a sportsman's .22, a policeman's .38 and a soldier's .45." Oh, well, things could be much worse. Smile

Therefore, I am selling my S&W 586-3. This is a round-butt frame. The pictures show the condition of the revolver. It is used but not abused.

(I will be also putting up for sale my 617 and 2000 rounds of .38 Special ammo)

Revolver originally had a ramp front sight with the red insert. I asked a local Bullseye smith, who is also a Master, to modify front sight to make it as close to Patridge as possible, while keeping the sight legal for DR. I am very pleased with the results, the sight picture is sharp. The rear sight has a white outline around the notch.

I had the revolver set up by one of the best revolver smiths in the country - Mark Hartshorne, the owner of Pinnacle High Performance.
https://pinnaclehighperformance.com
Mark did the following work:
- Drill and tap the revolver for the scope mount. (Mark's mount and screws are included with the revolver)
- Remove Endshake
- True Forcing Cone
- True Crown
- Turn back Barrel and reset Cylinder Gap

I have the original cardboard case for this revolver.
The revolver has Altamont Coke-bottle round-to-square-butt conversion grips installed and I am also including the factory rubber grips.
I will also include 16 high-quality dummy rounds - 6 topped with round bullets and 10, which resemble wadcutters. These are great for practicing revolver reloads and for dry-firing.

Asking: $750 + $25 FFL fee + $20 shipping.
In case of a local transaction, shipping fee is n/a but FFL fee is still needed.
Preferred payment - USPS Money Order, certified or personal check.

Best Regards,
Oleg.

Folks, I appreciate the interest in the revolver.
As indicated in the subject line, the revolver is sold and pending receipt of the funds. If the deal falls through for some reason, I will let you know, in the order of the posts.

Best Regards,
Oleg.

Is it just me or do those Altamont stocks appear to fit improperly?

To me they appear to sit way to low on the frame for some reason.

Not interested in buying; simply curious about the odd fit of the Altamont stocks. There is something wrong there.

I just bought a set of Altamont stocks, but for my N-frame.  They fit perfectly, and eliminate the "coke bottle" shape that I dislike.

Were the stocks in the photo above specifically made for the correct frame S&W revolver?  They don't look like they were.
I'd like to know for the future, if I buy another set of similar stocks for one of my 347/38 revolvers, but I'm very happy with my Nill stocks (which cost a LOT more).

The grips were not in the pins in the grip frame.

Removed and re installed.  Good gun so far.

I mounted a 2x 30 mm pistol scope on it.
Zeroed it for 50 yards shooting Brazos coated LRN over 3.5 bullseye.
HBWC with 2.8 grains of bullseye shot terrible  (5"), the LRN shot well. (2.5") for 5 shots from a rest.

I shot a  steel bowling pin match the next night and won with the scope on.  Distance was thirty feet.

First Bullseye match is in a week.  For now the scope stays on.  Deciding on which dot to get.
