Hey, new here : Looking to buy a Hammerli 208/215 S Empty Hey, new here : Looking to buy a Hammerli 208/215 S

Post by SilentAssassin 6/11/2021, 11:28 am

I'm new to all of this and new on this forum.
I'm currently shooting a Volquartsen Nitride SS. I have decided to add another pistol to my small collection.
Would like to find a really nice Hammerli 208 or 215 designated "S"
If anyone here is looking to part with what I need, please contact me.
Preferably a 208 S

I realize these guns are no longer manufactured. I'm searching for a really nice one.
Mint would be nice. And I'm willing to pay a more than fair price.

Gun must be accurate, no missing parts, no junk, no stripped screws, no unsightly mess, and perfect functionality. Or as near as possible.
I'm basically looking for a like new used gun that does what it's supposed to do.
For that I am willing to pay a good price.
Thanks for your time in this matter.
Hope you are all well.

Keep an eye on Gunbroker, there has been two like new in the last 6-8 weeks.
Went for $3,000-3,500 plus tax depending on your state

Look over at Simpson's LTD, they usually have some decent pricing. I got a like new 208S in box for under 2k.

Are you looking for a nice 208 or 208 S?  I have a nice 208 that is surplus to my needs.

Yes.
Preferably an S.
But I'm open to a 208 as long as it's a nice gun well kept.
Shoots straight , great trigger, no missing parts or screws, rust.  you know, that kind of stuff.
Thank you for your reply. I don't get any notifications on replies and I just saw this.
Sorry for the late reply.

The gun you are looking for and the description of the condition you want the gun in may make your search quite difficult. I have two now and both have cosmetic flaws, but shoot lights out. Although it is no longer in production, red feather has a large assortment of parts. Only a couple springs you’d ever really need to worry about replacing over time. I found a hammerli 215S for sale for a good price but it isn’t a museum piece so I doubt it would work for ya Wink

One of the shooters on the Bullseye-L forum on FB is looking to sell both of his 208s.  I posted to him to look at your request here at the Commercial Row.  I hope it works out for both of you.

FYI i have shot both and as a marksman it will take you many years to benefit from the slight difference the 208S offers, so my suggestion; find either the 208 or the 208S and start increasing your scores.

Trigger set-up on most of the 208S pistols I see are set-up pretty crappy. There is a lot of hype about 2 stage trigger pulls, but most are not set-up to really benefit the shooter. Having said that, most 208 triggers feel better than 208S to me. Regardless of the model you have to pull the trigger. My PB 895 is with a plain ol' 208. Don't sell the pistol short.

The S model has a safety.
If not for that, I would be looking at the 208 international Non -S.
I'm sure it's nice too.
I don't know what a PB 895 , is. ??
The safety is a big deal for me. I don't want to walk around with a loaded chamber, without the offered safety.
If tolerance allows , I will set the trigger up properly. I mean, for what I do with 22 caliber handguns.
That's well below 2 pounds.
I'm new here. I'm not a bullseye competition shooter. What some of you guys can do with one hand, I can't do, with two.
The 208-S is my Holy grail of .22 caliber handguns.
I do not know what might happen during this adventure. That's what life is. An adventure, or nothing.
Have a very nice Volquartsen that can be a host for many many configurations. It shoots nicely, but I don't have the time to practice, so much.
I have to work a lot and stuff. So good things don't happen for me, often. My time is taken.
In this life we trade the most important thing in life ( time) for money.
It took a long time for me to be able to afford not just a 208s but also the Volquartsen.
I found my Holy Grail, thanks to Mr. Dave. Hopefully, I will have a very nice 208s within the next few weeks.
We'll take it from there and see what happens. It sure is a nice gun.
Yes sir, it sure is.
I will use it and take great care of it. Like a fine wine glass.

PB = “Personal Best” .  In this case Jon only dropped 5 points in a 900 point 22 rimfire aggregate.  That is 3 points away from the current record of 898.

Hey, new here : Looking to buy a Hammerli 208/215 S Empty Be Careful!

This is a slippery slope you should not be tempted to follow, " I will set the trigger up properly. I mean, for what I do with 22 caliber handguns.
That's well below 2 pounds."

If you want to go under 2lbs, you have the wrong gun, get a Toz 35M any other free pistol, they are designed to go to ounces as low as 1-2 oz if you desire!

When you fool around with a semi-auto pistol and go under 2 lbs you are asking for trouble in many different dimensions.

Get the sear engagement off and you will have a gun that doubles and triples or empties the full mag on full auto. The gun can bounce with a loose grip with a 1.5 or so pull and double.

Sporting Target pistols really don't need to be set below 2 lb. trigger pulls. The free pistols are meant to go to ounces.

Appreciate the info.
Yep and you are correct. There is a point of no return. It might be fine as is and I may not adjust anything.
I don't want to look too far ahead because I don't have the gun yet.
But this is my Holy Grail in .22 caliber handguns.
I have never owned a handgun that has an adjustable trigger, and a two stage trigger. So I'm happy about this gun.
i guess the closest thing I ever had with regard to you guys shooting discipline was a SW M41. It was very accurate but it was also very unreliable.
This was many years ago. It made several trips back to Smith and Wesson and the problem never was corrected. So I disclosed the issue and let the next guy have it.
It was a bummer. I can't just go out and buy expensive guns whenever I want. I put my boots on and go to work and it takes a good long time to save.
So I'm hoping for the best with this Hammerli. It will  be the last gun for a while. Maybe forever.
You can trust that I will take your advice and not try to push anything to extreme limits of dangerous.
Thank you

Jon,

I seem to recall you saying your overall PB was shot with a S&W41.  Some folks can shoot "lights out" with anything that goes bang!

"S" does not indicate a safety. It indicates that the unit is fitted with a trigger adjustable fore and aft and (although I've seen at least one person argue otherwise) a square trigger guard.

Safeties were after market add-ons for some pistols imported to the states. Depending on who did it, it cod be a lever, and twist knob, or I've even seen a 1911 style thumb safety.

You're a marksman.  The gun shoots much better than you.

The gun will not improve your scores.

The attached was shot with a well-used Hi-Standard Supermatic Model 107 Military that in the day cost me $500.  The target was shot with iron sights at Quantico during the .22 rapid fire stage and was scored by former national champion Sgt. Rick Rodriguez. http://smith-wessonforum.com/picture.php?albumid=1269&pictureid=17364
