M17 Target Sights?
How are the military pistol teams (or anyone else) putting an adjustable rear sight on a SIG M17 pistol?
I wondered about this today when I noticed that the M17 rear sight isn't attached by a dovetail the way most rear sights are. Instead, it's part of the slide cover plate that can be removed to mount a dot sight.
In theory, you could fabricate a new cover plate with an adjustable rear sight machined into it, which is the system used on the SIG P320 X5 pistols. But I don't think the M17 and the X5 use the same plate dimensions and I haven't seen SIG offer such an item for the M17.
Is the USAMU making their own parts? Or are they still using the M9?

Re: M17 Target Sights?
As of November my son retired after 22 years with AMU so I don't know what they are doing but he does work with the Army I can find out. I suspect they will soon be using the M17 but it will be for Service Pistol. The 1911 was their Bullseye gun so I don't think that will change. Though the 1911 was allowed in Service Pistol Matches the team had to use the M9 being it was the current Service Pistol so I would think the M17 will be required.

The P320 M-17 has a cut for the Romeo1Pro as does the Legion X5 P320. Therefore the Legion's adjustable rear sight

fits in the M-17 slide cut.
Your front sight may need to be taller and you can select from one of these.

Sig320's are lego guns, parts swap between the various models very easily.

SIG states X5 rear sights have different hole locations for attaching the mounting screws. This is true - will see about getting pics for proof. In the interim, I understand there is an adjustable LPA rear sight which fits in the dovetail for the STANDARD P320 pistol. (Not the M17.)
Options: Obtain a standard P320 slide, and fit an adjustable LPA rear to it.

There are different generations of the X5 with different optic/sight cuts. The original version was cut for the SIG Romeo1 sight, but around 2019 SIG started to use a cut for the Leupold Delta Point Pro.

I must be getting old, I saw the title and assumed the poster was asking about a Model 17 S&W revolver.

After shooting the X-5 in a few matches, I am wishing for better sights. The stock sights work, but the adjustments are crude and sloppy and the front sight is narrower than I prefer for Bullseye shooting.
Sights aside, I like the X-5. It's reasonably accurate, very reliable, comfortable to shoot, and the poor stock trigger can be made fairly decent.

Add one of these and that trigger will be vastly improved.

Also check that there are not any burs on the striker.
