Strong Case Aluminum gauge/thickness
Ok Does anyone know off the top of their head what the aluminum thickness is on the strong cases? I’m thinking of trying to bend one up on my brother in laws sheet metal brake.

I just measured mine and the metal used for the body seems to be 1.6 millimeters thick.
Good luck, it is too bad they stopped making these boxes they are really nice.

FWIW, 1.6mm is about .063 so anything .060 or so. I’d use 6061-T6 but be generous with the bend radius.

I was using some calipers that are used for measuring wood items being turned on a lathe so not a mic or micrometer plus the paint added some thickness. I am sure Wobbley is correct.

The one I have is .068 thick including the powder coat. My guess is it starts out .0625 (1/16th).

3000 series aluminium is much more formable. Thin sheet is often 3000 series.

I don't have a Strong Case, but my bet would be on 5052-H32.

I agree with DA/SA on 5052-H32 as it is easy to work with. I made this box a long time ago out of .063 which may be overkill.SmoothBore870 wrote:Ok Does anyone know off the top of their head what the aluminum thickness is on the strong cases? I'm designing another and am going to use .050 to get a little lighter box.
