Remington R1 1911 suitable?
Have any smiths looked at a Remington 1911 as a base gun for Bullseye? Even if slide to frame fit is not the best won’t accurails work to tighten it up? I am asking as I have a line on some either new or used. They made several variations from a GI style to ones with target sights etc. Thanks.

Look at my avatar
Mine is a R1 Enhanced In Stainless
It has 100’s of 850-865 scores shot through it. At last check of my log book it has 142k rounds though it. I did have Accurails installed a couple of years ago. It is bone stock except the following
Firing Pin
Multiple barrel bushings
Short trigger bow
Frame mount red dot rail
LPA target sight
3 1/2 lbs trigger job done by the USMC Armorers at Camp Perry in 2019
Every other piece is R1

Thanks! That is exactly what I was looking for. I am planning to set mine up as a service gun for CMP. I think I will get an adjustable sight model and replace the bushing, do a trigger job and then possibly accurails. Maybe a barrel in there too but that adds cost and time.

Shoot it first. Then decide.
May just need a barrel bushing and slide stop pin (.200)

100% agree! Just shoot it! Mine had a 4 1/4 crisp trigger out of the box and I shot it like that for years.james r chapman wrote:Shoot it first. Then decide.

Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think a R1 came with target sights!
The only one that I have found is a LPA sight sold by Fusion firearms for your Novak Cut. It will require a very small filing to fit easily done by you.

Is this the LPA-made sight, offered by Fusion Firearms, that you are referring to?

I don’t recall the R1 using a standard Novak dovetail. I had to mill it deeper and wider and a slightly different angle as I recall.

FYI I have handled about 200 R1s now and I have not seen a single stack 1911 with adjustable sights but quite a few double stacks with them. Weird that Remington did that. Possibly because they bought out Para and that is what they did (though I am not sure on that last bit)?

When you say nope this one. What do you mean? What is this a picture of?

Go to the Bunker Arms website. He makes a base for the Novak sight cut that you retrofit a Bomar or Bomar copy into it. He calls it the Nomar base.
I built a 1.5 inch RIA 1911. If that gun can do it the other one can too!
