Looking to buy a ruger 10/22 for a custom build. The cheaper the better.

JUST A SUGGESTION. I'VE BUILT IN THE PAST. BUT THAN I JUST BOUGHT ONE OF TONY KIDDS (FORMER A.M.U. BUILDER ). BUILT TO MY SPECS. SAME PRICE AS BUILDING. BUT AGGRAVATION AND WORRY FREE. IN MY OPINION IT'S THE WAY TO GO. JP

I think the 10/22 may exceed the barrel length rule?   Very Happy

And he'll likely be waiting for years to get CMM to make a grip adapter for it.

I'll second Kidd. I bought a receiver and the associated parts, and then threaded it for a barrel and cobbled up some pillars to bed it in a Boyd's stock. Wasn't the cheap way to go, but the parts are much nicer than Ruger. And it shoots much better than I expected with a Green Mountain blank I had reserved for the vegetable garden here after slugging it. Might just save the Krieger for another bolt gun.

Thomson Center makes a 10/22 called the TCR 22. Highly recommend. I took the stock trigger group and replaced with a Timney. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1022505843   https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2018/07/02/review-thompson-center-tcr22/

Liked it so much I bought another.  One caveat:  The TC trigger group and proprietary magazines allow for lock back after the last shot.  I found it a pain in the ass and no after market trigger assemblies with work with it.  So, I forsake the lock back for an exceptional trigger.  PC

I did that a few years ago. Bought the cheapest 10/22 available, with the lighter birch stock. Chambered/installed a 26" Green Mountain SS barrel (.22 "Match"), Hornet trigger, Volquartsen extractor and firing pin, Kidd charging handle, and EABCO silhouette *pistol* sights. I can also mount my Weaver rimfire scope on the rear sight base (making it also T-class legal). Painted it with the fake carbon fiber look. I shoot SK Standard Plus, and that is very reliable. It took a few bricks of SKS+ to wear-in the chamber a bit, but using lubed bullets really helps. Looking back perhaps I should have gone with the Bentz chamber but that does not matter now. I managed 1st in O-class Rimfire Sporter (Senior class) in 2019 at Perry, 3rd overall; 2nd this year, 4th overall. Not great scores (my fault) but enough time to practice.
