SOLD Smith & Wesson Model 16-4 Empty SOLD Smith & Wesson Model 16-4

SOLD ) Smith & Wesson Model 16-4

$1500.00

This is a S&W Model 16-4, in .32 Magnum.  It also shoots .32 S&W Long.

In the mid-80’s Smith & Wesson announced that they were going to re-issue their famous Model 16.  That revolver shot .32 S&W Long, only.  It was well respected for Conventional and International Centerfire.  However, they became outrageously expensive.

So, everyone at the range was excited and we all put in orders for the new Model 16 when they were issued.

However, Smith brought out the new #16 in .32 Magnum.  The revolver shoots .32 S&W Long just fine but it was deemed not accurate enough for competition.  The reason, said the experts, was that Smith made the cylinder longer to accommodate the .32 Magnum and thus the “gap” that the bullet had to jump, to the forcing cone, was greater and that degraded accuracy. Fixes were proposed (shortening the cylinder and advancing the barrel and forcing cone but they would take a great deal of gun-smithing and money.

I shot this revolver on occasion, not very much.  I found and installed a set of Morini grips that are either in Men’s Small or Medium.  I don’t know possessed me to use green epoxy to build them up, but I did.

Years later, when I acquired other .32 Magnum revolvers, I downloaded some magnum brass to my charge for .32 S&W Long.  I found this revolver to be more accurate with a weak .32 Magnum load.  However, my understanding is that all magnums are banned from competition.  At least they were in my club.  So… a .32 Magnum is a Magnum no matter what the load.

I have little memory of buying this gun.  I think it might have had wood grips with finger-grooves but I can’t locate anything like that among my “stuff.”  So… because it does have a target hammer and trigger, I stocked this revolver with Smith target grips

I also intend to sell the Morini grips.  Morini K-frame grips are around but you don’t see them much.  If anyone is interested, ask me.

I’m seeing these revolvers priced all over the place.  Some are sky high.  I don’t see many for sale.  If no one wants it, I’ll probably put it up on GunBroker for the current asking price.

Specs wise…. 6” barrel, full lug, 3-T’s, light drag-line on cylinder.  No box.

Payment type, flexible.  My FFL to yours.

FYI, It also appears to have a Millett rear sight added, not factory.
Yes they run for 1400 up to over 2k asking price, usually the 8 3/8” bring the most.
1500 is a fair price for it. I’ve just bought to many lately or it would be mine.

I bought this brand-new at the gunshop.  Whatever sight it has, that's what it had when it came out of the box.  I'm absolutely certain that I did not change sights.  I didn't pay for it. A half-dozen of us from our club (Phoenix Rod & Gun) put in advance orders and patiently waited.

That's an odd one. clearly not a traditional S@W rear sight.

I guess it's possible... possible... that the gunshop installed the sight before I ever picked it up.  I was a newbie to Bullseye back then and perhaps I just told the shop to.... "give me whatever they're getting."  Like I said... at least a half-dozen of us pre-ordered them.

Here's a quick "down and dirty" shot of the sights and, yes, that is a big ol' sideways "M."  They are definitely Millett sights.

Wow, wow, wow.... Im very thrilled to see this, feel like i won the powerball🤣

One month ago, i see a Facebook live from the local gunshop i was work. The owner of gunshop show a 52-2 with counterweight and a full underlug Revolver. I call to verify the revolver caliber, i bet is a 14 but for good or bad was a .32.... I talk with my ex coworker for hold the revolver to put in layaway, because i dont have a .32 revolver.

Short or long story, the 52-2 was sold for $250.00😭😭😭.... I was very mad, because the 52 is a legendary Bullseye pistol and the best target pistol made by Smith and wesson. Until today i was think the revolver  i put on layaway was a .32 smith and wesson long, because i only watch via Facebook and  photo.

After see this i investigate more about the 16-4. The K32 or 16 was made since 1947 to 1974. Smith and wesson reintroduce the new K-32 16-4 but in .32 magnum revolver between 1990-1992 in 4", 6" and 8 3/8" barrel lenght. The produced quantity was only 8,800 combines in the 3 barrel lenghts. The original grips for this model was the Gonçalo Alves combat grips.

This revolver is one of the most wanted by smith and wesson revolver collectors and apparently in wish list for long time because is very rare to see one on sale.

Good Luck on sale!!

Whatever rear sight is on the gun - it is no doubt a great shooter. I have one on which I have an Aimpoint H1 mounted in place of the rear sight. These guns (with 32 magnum brass loaded with Hornady XTP100 JHP bullets at modest velocity) are super accurate and great guns to shoot. IMHO.

I use mine for Harry Reeves matches - they are absolutely legal - AFAIK. Sadly, very few clubs shoot HR these days. But the good old NRA has a HR match at the Nationals tomorrow! Yay!

The price is at the very top , $1500.

One of the responders must have hit "quote" and that caused my entire listing, including photos, to be duplicated.  So... everything is a little top-heavy right now.
