Looking for an extractor for a S&W model 52 Empty Looking for an extractor for a S&W model 52

Hello, my dad broke his extractor on an original
S&W model 52 (not 52-1 or 52-2) He has been shooting it for 55+ years and at Perry in the 60’s.
If anyone has a spare collecting dust they could part with or any leads to find an extractor or a smith that could help get his pistol back up and running would be appreciated. We are in metro Detroit not far from Perry.

Thank you and have a great day.

Are not the extractors for a -1 and the original 52s the same?

I did find my spare 52-1 extractor on eBay many years ago. They so show up.

The model 39 extractor is very similar and perhaps could be made to work on an early 52. May be your only option If you can't find the correct one

The model 39 extractor you want is from a base model 39 not the 39-2.. one piece design
There were some 2 piece 39 extractors made to fix the problem of extractor breakage. My wife has a 52-1 that has never had an issue over many years of BE. Just never drop the slide on a round already in the chamber.

The 52-2 began some time around 1970 so the old style extractors are rare. You might drop a wtb on the smith and Wesson forums.. many -1 users have collected spare parts and someone may have a spare extractor they are willing to part with.

Greetings,

The M39 and M52/M52-1 old style extractors "look" the same. They are slightly different in the extractor hook.

Most sellers on eBay will not have a clue if you ask what model it fits.

I have not done it; but, I suspect a M39 extractor can be made to work in a M52 with the careful application of a small swiss file.

Numrich Gun Parts catalog them; but, again, one size does not fit all.

Cheers,

Dave

They are hard to find but not impossible.  I'm pretty sure you are looking for this one. Looking for an extractor for a S&W model 52 20220810Looking for an extractor for a S&W model 52 20220811
This is my spare for my no-dash 52.

Bought a couple of spares for my 52-1 and never needed them so I guess I could let one go if it will work for you.   It has the spring, but not the little plunger pin.

I have had success welding them, refitting , then re-tempering them.
