Aimpoint problem
Hi guys:
I have a Aimpoint 4MOA micro dot.
Problem is that the rheostat is malfunctioning.
I have no red dot at positions zero through 11.
Turn it on to 12, and it is full bore high intensity bright lights in your face.
Switched batteries, matter of fact tried four different new batteries.
Completely unusable.
Solution?
Ship it back to Aimpoint with their lifetime guarantee, no problem..........................
Problem is, I have some shades pressed on that I cannot get off.
Furthermore, I have a Kodiak Pardini mount, Plastic Hex head machine screws with the hex stripped.
should I try and remove the extraneous apparatuses? Possibly destroying the Aimpoint?
Or send it in as it is with shade and Kodiak Mount and let Aimpoint deal with it?
Regards,
Crankster

Re: Aimpoint problem
Sorry to suggest the obvious, but you might give Aimpoint a call and ask them?
AFAIK, the rheostat is mounted under the battery compartment, so I'm guessing that they will access to check/repair from there and therefore probably do not need to remove the glass at each end. Just a WAG, I could be totally wrong

Re: Aimpoint problem
contact aimpoint and explain your concerns specific to your situation. In general a forum is not a place to take care of warranty or quality concerns.

Re: Aimpoint problem
I don't think the Kodiak mount is an issue but they do want the shade off. I went through the same problem.

Re: Aimpoint problem
Sometimes a rheostat can be “fixed” by running it up and down through the entire range several times. Can’t hurt to try.

Call them…the shades may not be a problem. As long as they can get into the unit you’re good.

Re: Aimpoint problem
I left my shades on when I sent mine in. They sent me a brand new dot and the shades from the old dot were also included in the shipping box.
