Are they again made in Japan, with good optics?
I heard they went to China like everything else.

It’s hard to see how to justify this scope in light of the Hawke nature trek 9-27 x56 long eye relief and focuses down to 8 feet $249.  I mean the little NG is cute but 33mm lens in low light?  Not unless it comes with a 800 lumen Cree lamp.

Travel gunbox, more compact footprint.

Plus the NG is ~$251US, so samey-same.

Plus, I deserve nice things.

As far as I know, they've always been made in China...just above average quality for a Chinese product. I'm happy with mine.

The NG20 has great eye relief for such a small scope. I can just tilt my head toward it from 6" away and see the target, no scrunching and squinting needed.

I picked up a small gimbal mount with a magnetic base, and it's up and running very easily.

the Hawk is difficult to fit in our BE boxes. the NG20 fits real easy in any BE box even the old packmayr's

True the Hawke has to be removed from the hebard style mount in the Pachmayr box I got off eBay. It’s too shallow by an inch because the bottom has a compartment on both sides. An old spacemaster ii 20x 50mm fits but it’s a straight eyepiece. .22 holes were a bit elusive in the black at 50yards. If this cute little NG guy actually has better resolution I’d consider it. Can someone verify 22 holes in the black?

Bickar just what I need, a fourth scope. Btw your repeated “deserve nice things” comments make you sound like Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man. Lol. But ask Jon E why I don’t deserve nice things after my last performance in a 900 .22 match.

I can usually see all the holes in the black but it would depend on lighting of course.  I don't shoot indoors so I can't say how well it would do inside but outside it works fine.  I did buy it specifically for its size and weight so I was accepting a trade off but for me it works as well as my big Tasco scope that it replaced.

If you can find someone that has one you can try it out first to ease your mind.  Guys are always asking to look through mine and seem satisfied when they do.

Good luck.

John

They are nicely made.

No disrespect to others, but they do not suit me. I have difficulty with all of the smaller scopes at 50 yards, especially in inclement weather. I'm fiddling with boxes at the moment and am temporarily using my "indoor" Minox, even on a bright day I have difficulty clearly seeing 22 holes at 50 yards, and the Minox is significantly optically superior to the NG.

I sold my NG on after finding that it was not clear enough for me - pity!

I strongly advise other folks to try thoroughly before you buy.

I do not own one, but have used one a few times. I would say it works great for confirmation of a shot, but not for looking for one if that makes sense.

Received mine today from the eBay link above. Arrived safely in new condition. Smells a little bit like it was packed in a warehouse full of cigarette smokers, LOL.

It's too dark out for me to test it out but optics seem fine. Will run it through its paces later.

I use my NG 20 for my Bullseye league which we shoot indoors at 25yds. It will work at 50yds but I can never make out all ten shots in 22. For matches I use my NG 30. I wish the power was adjustable on the NG 30 because all you can see is the black of the repair center at 25yds.

I was able to take it to the range this weekend and am pretty happy with it. I didn't use it for the match, but optical clarity is good and field of view is fine. Eye relief is a little tight, and I imagine that it might struggle in low light conditions. However, one shouldn't compare it to full-sized (e.g., 50mm objective) spotting scopes in the same price range. I'm more contrasting it with a compact set of binoculars for cross-country travel, to which it is far superior.

I'll take it to the range tonight and try it out in the dark.

The Hawke fits in my 3 gun Strong box with room to spare. Very short but a little deep with the offset eyepiece and 56 mm bell. But overall takes up much less room than my Champions Choice that I sold on.
