Range brass what’s the difference in the brass?

Are you asking if these two are different?  Yes they are.  38 spl is a rimmed cartridge while the 38 super is rimless.  The .38 spl is also longer.  The two are not interchangeable.

Yes I was I have a 20mm ammo can full of once fired 45acp from a NM shoot and there is some 38 case# in there, since I inherited a model 52 I might as well keep and 38 specials , just wanted to know what I was looking at

Actually, .38 Super is "semi-rimless".  It has a small rim to the case.  Nonetheless, they still are not interchangeable.
