SW 52 firing pin question
My 52 refused to fire today. It flunked the pencil test. I am going to get my smith to work on it, but
I see where parts are different depending on who and where one gets them. I thought it wise to seek those
experienced with this pistol, as I would get parts and give them to the smith.
Since the gun was working just fine last week, I suspect the firing pin, since the hammer is dropping as usual.
Numrich has the original pin, both used and new, but is out of springs. Wolff does not show a firing pin spring
for the 52, although I suspect other sw parts might work.
Any chance of the safety getting locked inside the pistol so it interferes with the firing pin? It was the first thing I checked.
I also see where Numrich has listed a newly made pin, out of stock. Appreciate any wisdom on which parts, etc.
I have a spare gun, so no emergency, but I do love shooting it.

Re: SW 52 firing pin question
I wonder if S&W M-39 parts might work?

Greetings,
The Model 52 shares the same firing pin as the M39 and M59.
Cheers,
Dave

Take the slide off and observe the firing pin action.
I'd let your smith obtain the correct parts.

Re: SW 52 firing pin question
According to Gunparts Corp. the firing pin on the 39 Series has a different part number than the 52 Series does. I am not sure what the difference would be, but the numbers are not the same. The 39 Series FP is about $15.00 from Gunparts so no biggie. Fleabay has an old style M52 pin and spring for sale at about $25.00, so there may be a difference in the FP's.

Re: SW 52 firing pin question
Greetings,
Interesting...
My S&W Parts Book list the M52 pin as 060190000
M59 as 103650000
M39 as 103650000
Old Hebard catalogs show the M52, M39, and M59 as the same, 6019.
With the addition of the compact and stainless versions, perhaps there is a physical difference.
Cheers,
Dave

Greetings,
Gil Hebard catalog of 1964 shows M52 firing pin as #6019.
Perhaps a call to Smith & Wesson?
