Service Revolver Grips
Regarding grips on CMP service revolvers, the rules state "Grips must be standard type stocks for the revolver model used, either factory original or replacement. Grips must be functionally identical for right- or left-hand use, made of wood or synthetic material with no palm swell or thumb rest."
I have a Smith and Wesson that has Herrett's Roper grips/stocks on it, I send in a tracing of my hand and had them custom made. They may even be slightly asymmetrical since they were made from a tracing of my hand and I told them that I was left handed as well.
Are these considered standard "type" stocks or does "standard" mean factory supplied and direct copies only?

In this case, standard means off the shelf. That is the intent here; it's trying to be the "stock" in stock car, if that makes sense.

Generally they look for a thumb rest. I once was scrambling at Perry to find slabs because they wouldn’t pass pachmayr’s with that itsy thumbrest.

I have a S&W K-38 and found a set of smooth plain grips on Amazon. This makes grip tape installation easy (okay by the rules) and I don't risk mucking up the factory grips.

Isn't CMP revolver any caliber from 9mm/38 to 45?

Yeah.
But Len’s an old timer from when Men were Men, one handed was King,
And Irons ruled, 230 ball machine gun ammo was issued.

Re: Service Revolver Grips
I would not have a problem with it, I have shot full house loads out of a friends 57 and found it quite fun. I have been tempted to shoot factory magnum loads out of my 586 in a service revolver match.

They typically search for a thumb rest. I have shot entire house loads out of a friend's 57 and thought it to be really enjoyable, so I wouldn't mind at all.
