Hammerli limits on ammo power
Most 22lr lists speeds at 1200fps or thereabouts. I have read some are detrimental to target pistols.
What's a good limit assuming a 40gr bullet?

Some form of Standard Velocity, which is usually somewhere below 1100 fps.

I never use anything but standard velocity in all 3 of my Hammerlis. That's what they are set up for (recoil spring-wise) and they do have a history of frame cracking at the front of the frame where the recoil spring bottoms out. They also have a habit of peening the breech face due to excessive slide velocity. High Standards and Browning Medalists/Challengers are the same.

What they said, most manufacturers get the fps from rifle length barrels. If you stick with Standard a velocity then should be ok, I think CCI Std was 950'ish fps from a Ruger 5.5" mk4. Also B_T I would change out that recoil spring in the Hammerli, you can see the wear/flat spot on the coils which weakens the spring.

Federal Auto Match Lists at 1200 FPS it feels a little softer than that but I saw a Youtube video where is chrono'd at about 1200 avg.
1130 FPS listed is the most I would go. CCI SV (not as good as it used to be), Norma TAC People say its better now but my Hammerli Xesse loathes the bricks I have. Aguilla SE (1130) is fine and the new stuff is accurate. SK Pistol Match is fine. SK Rifle Match is ok. SK Semi Auto Rifle is good (Accurate). Wolf is Fine. Fiocchi SV is ok. Eley BullseyeX (Shoots good), Eley Semi auto rifle (shoots good), Eley Contact SV looks interesting I never tried it.
Avoid HV for 2 reasons
1) Most guns cannot take it long term except for the S&W M 41 It was designed to shoot CCI Mini Mag and even so you are better with a reduced power recoil spring. Rugers and Browning can shoot HV also.
2) Accuracy, HV is trans sonic and the flight path shifts a lot when it goes from supersonic to subsonic.
Running HV ammo is like putting regular gas in a Porsche 911 Turbo, you degrade performance and long term you are pay for the using the wrong fuel.
