Need to purchase more 38 special HBWC projectiles....do you have a favorite that's still being made and sold?
I will be running out of 38 HBWC projectiles soon.
My intent is to handled rounds for an old Colt revolver as well as for the Model 52 semi-auto pistol.
My goal as always is to try to shoot a nice light very accurate load with the hope of seeing pretty little groups.
I was wondering which make HBWC projectiles bullseye shooters prefer?
I reviewed a number of posts and many recommended Remington brand but i believe they are no longer available.
I checked the forum sponsor Brazos but they don't list a HBWC, and the Magnus website said they're closed for business right now.
A brief search of some of the large firearm shops shows Speer, Hornady, Berry, Zero and Magnus available for sale....likely there are others as well.
I would appreciate your thoughts/experience/recommendations as i will probably purchase a larger number of projectiles this time around.
Thank you.

I've been using Bear Creek for the last year. They out perform Precision Delta in my revolver and Clark 1911.

Precision Delta have had a great reputation among police competitors (PPC) over many decades. https://www.precisiondelta.com/products/38-cal-148gr-hbwc-ml/

I'm very grateful for the help from this forum's membership.
Its very interesting....some of these lead 38 special 148gn HBWC projectiles are described as .357 inch in diameter and others are in .358 inch in diameter.... and yet they are often advocated similarly for the SW Model 52 semiautomatic pistol?
I would have imagined (without any fundamental knowledge) that the larger diameter projectiles might better conform to the barrel as they must be comparatively soft...yielding improved accuracy?
Holding out for one more day to see if Cyber Monday might yield any further discounts to lessen some of the pain my credit card must be experiencing, having just purchased a reloading press. Thanks again to those who helped with their suggestions and experience.
A dear friend will be helping me assemble the press, I watched a couple of videos on the subject.
He can lift the press more easily than i can and he's offered to bring over a jig saw to cut up some old wood scraps i've accumulated to mount the press to the work bench.
I'm going to keep the heavier reloading components on a shelf attached to the lower portion of the work bench which I hope won't be too hard to access and yet will add some stability to the process.
If all goes well, by next week i hope to making cartridges.

IMHO that absolute best 148 HBWC are the Hornady, I have loaded the Zero in the past for the 52 but they leave a small amount of lube that builds up in the chamber over time (100-150 rounds) that will cause problems. These Hornady bullets don't suffer that issue - https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/0000310208/38-caliber-point358-diameter-148-grain-hollow-base-wad-cutter-lead-bullet-250-count

A general rule of thumb for handgun bullets is .001" over bore diameter for lead bullets, i.e. .358" for lead .38 Special bullets and the bore diameter for jacketed bullets, i.e. .357" for .38 Special. 9mm would be .356" lead and .355" jacketed and .45 ACP would be .452 for lead and .451 for jacketed, etc.

That's if the 9mm bore actually is .355. Odds of that are not great when actual barrels are measured (see below). Also, 38/357 and 9mm have the same SAAMI groove diameter specs of .355 + .004. That means they have the chance of being in the same range.

I suppose that my sub, 2" ten shot groups from a Ransom machine of jacketed 9mm bullets, measuring .355", shot out of a Kidd accurized Beretta 92FS were a fluke.S148 wrote:BE Mike wrote:A general rule of thumb for handgun bullets is .001" over bore diameter for lead bullets . . . 9mm would be .356" lead and .355" jacketed . . .

Jacketed seem to be far more tolerant of an oversize bore than lead. At the least, they don't result in an all day mining operation to clean it.

I wear thin vinyl or other medical exam gloves when reloading or cleaning.

I didn't say anything about accuracy, just bore sizes. What size is the groove diameter of the Beretta's barrel?
On that subject, jacketed undersize bullets can shoot well. This report found no difference in accuracy between .355" and .357" Sierra bullets in a 38 Special revolver with a .357" barrel. 24-shot groups were around 2" at 25 yards for most powders used. Not bad for an off the shelf revolver.

That's a good choice. I was just about to post the link below which looked at a couple of HBWC brands, and the Zeros out-performed the Hornady a little in the gun they used.

My revolver seems to hate swaged bullets, I would try a good cast bullet.
